THE SLICE MODIFIER
The Slice modifier lets you create a cutting plane that slices through a mesh, creating new vertices, edges and faces based on the location of the slice plane gizmo. The vertices can either refine or split the mesh according to the selected options.
The Slice modifier slices through groups, selected objects or sub-object selections of faces. It works similarly to the Editable mesh > Edge > Slice function but does not require the objects to be editable meshes.
You can animate the cutting plane, changing its position and rotation over time. You can also use the Remove Top and Remove Bottom options to create the appearance and disappearance of objects by animating the Slice Plane gizmo.
To use the Slice Modifier, click your object then select Slice Modifier on the list
You can slice an object a couple of times, just copy the modifier then paste.
Move the slice plane to anther place and you will l got another slice line.
Medyo matrabaho, so i suggest to use the Slice on the edit geometry instead.
Convert the objects to poly, then go to edit geometry and you will find Slice.
Hope it helps...

sir rendermaster, i would like to ask regarding application of materials on curve objects following its curve profile, e.g. swimming pool with curve gutter and edge applied with mosaic tiles. thank you sir....

Re: 3d Max Modelling Tips
- Sometimes we are aiming for a totally flat wide surface, an ocean, a seas, a pavewalk, a grass land, a dessert and more, normally we will create a plane large enough to cover the whole area, convert and add some segments to accomodate tiling procedures . Do you know that with just one little plane you can create this one thus saving lots of vertex, face and polys...
The sample below is a seascape. You can dowload the raw file here http://www.zshare.net/download/68609679fbed4084 . Im using max 2009
Wires View
I created a PLANE ( 1mx 1m) one for the ocean surface and one for seabed
Adjust Plane Render multiplier for both plane
First Render ( Isolated Plane) - water material applied
Second Render ( accessories added)
Third Render ( completed View)
And here is another example ( a desert fighter plane)
Mesh Image, showing the Plane at 1m x 1m with 1.0 render multiplier, Upper right side is the sample render
Rendered Image with Render Multiplier adjusted to 1000( no material added)
Another rendered image , material added no UVW Mpping
Final Render with adjusted material by Map Scaler Modifier
Final Render showing the horizon ( fog added)
- to conlude, rather than creating a huge plane model with lots of segment, faces and vetexes, with just some click you can render what you are aiming for by just activating the render multiplier of a simple and small plane
Hope its help!

*mga master pano po maiiwasan yung mga nag ta-triangle (encircled area) kakabadtrip jan ako natagalan di ko rin pala maaayos XD
itatry kong gumawa ng body nyan balang araw ^^

parang di naka align mga vertex nya or na push/pull. anyway go to our free stuff section , search for ILLUSION CATALYST. its good for editing polys/mesh and alike.
good luck

Re: 3d Max Modelling Tips
Without seeing your object, I can only guess:
1. most probably that particular surface isn't flat. To fix, Go subobject mode - polygon, selct polygon and press "planar"
2. You have another triangle in the same area
3. the horizontal edges were just visible to fix, assuming its a mesh, go subobject edge, select edge then hit invisible.

Re: 3d Max Modelling Tips
just ask a simple questions mga masters, bguhan ako s 3d max i do'nt know really... but i want to learn, actually i'm using SU+Podium but i want also to learn 3d max.
may question is what is the best way to do 3d max model?
import the plan of 2d drawing or make a 3d and import to max?

its a case to case scenario sir. if you are adept with autocad, most cases you create a model there and filelink it to 3dmax. some prefered to model in 3dmax. so its still in your decision to make. all procedure is acceptable. the best is you start one now. good luck

there are lot of factors kung bakit nagka-crash ang computer:
1. graphics cards/display - try to switch from 3 graphic display ( software, opengl , direct 3d). it is found on Customize Menu --> Preferences -->> Viewport -->> Graphics Display
2. Memory / Ram Issue - but as i see your computer is well enough
3. The materials are too heavy - there are some materials that might have large subdivs, lowering them might help. Try to activate also your bitmap Pager and adjust the amount.
The Bitmap Pager can prevent memory errors when rendering scenes that have very large textures, a large number of textures, or when rendering high-resolution images. The settings used by the Bitmap Pager determine how 3ds Max pages image files to disk during rendering in order to conserve memory.
To enable the Bitmap Pager
( the amount above is just a sample on where it was locate)
1. In 3ds Max, click Customize menu > Preferences.
2. On the Rendering tab of the Preference Settings dialog box, set the following parameters shown in the following image:
Parameters:
* On - When selected, the Bitmap Pager is enabled and the software creates a series of temporary page files on the drive, which are used when rendering.
* Page Size (KB) - Sets the size of the bitmap page file. If textures are smaller than this page size, the system allocates only the memory required.
* Bitmap Size Threshold (KB) - Sets the minimum size (in kilobytes) that a bitmap must be in order to be paged.
* Memory Pool (KB) - Controls the amount of memory used by the pager. All pages remain in memory until this limit is reached. When the limit is reached, the pager begins saving pages to disk. Pages that are not frequently used are paged out. More frequently used pages are kept in memory.
4. When the polys are too big ( example: 3d trees), moving it around the scene is quite very hard. Try to view them as a box.
Right click on the object -->> Object Properties -->> View as Box
5. Optimize your scene, use LOD ( Level of Details )
The main purpose of this utility is to save time in rendering complex objects and in manipulating objects in the viewports. Since a portion of rendering speed is directly related to the number of faces that must be rendered in a scene, using the Level Of Detail utility lets you reduce the number of rendered faces as an object reduces its apparent size. In addition, you can use this utility to display a simple stand-in for a more complex object in the viewports. Since the stack is not calculated for objects hidden in the viewports, you can speed up viewport manipulation by using this utility to substitute complex stack objects with simple stand-ins.
6. Use Proxies - Converting some objects in the scene to Vray Proxies will help you a lot in saving render times. When there are lots of similar object in the scene, convert one to Vraymesh then use proxy. When duplicating them ( the proxied object) use intance.
7. Render Setups - some setups in your rendering parameters are too high, recheck them and make some try outs render. Browse the site, learn and studies some of their available setups. Settings are are scene dependent, copying them may gives good or bad renders. But it will help a lot in settings up your own. So still make some try out first.
