32 bit apps on a 64 bit OS???
First topic message reminder :
"tip po sa USA 64bit na lumalabas na bagong laptop and then mura pa, baka lang po meron kayong kilala although pwede din namang mag-order for shipment. Kapag 64-bit po ang gamit nyo wag po kayong mag-iinstall ng 64-bit na max kase gagamitin nya ung resources nyo di na kayo makakapag-multi task, 32 bit lang ganun din po kapag PC ang gamit nyo(by experience)."
---this statement was made hereabouts; I'm thinking its a bit "misleading". As one friend said; "why would I get a 64bit OS if not for its resources?"...
---but then the benefit of a doubt must be given; what's the general consensus on this?...
errrr... is this the right place to post this?...

just like dude arki, gusto ko rin magtanong pa tungkol sa RIG ni dude tamins. Im planning to upgrade din gaya ni dude boks.
Dude tamin, I hope you could answer all our queries. TIA

sir cloud ganda ahh ! talaga naman kayo ohhh ha ha ha , galing ata sa laptop to ahh? lams mo na yun .. dami ako nakuha dito ..malaki tulong to ..so therefore 64 on 64 pala ,cheese burger with cheese aka sundance huli na naman ako
Re: 32 bit apps on a 64 bit OS???
.
BTT:
dati 32bit ako, laging nagcacrash max ko, nag shift ako sa 64 bit, ayun ok na, kahit maraming nakaopen di sya nagcacrash. meron akong max 2010 at 2011 same time nakaopen pati photoshop cs5 at autocad 2011.
dami ko natutunan dito sa discussions. thanks.

Re: 32 bit apps on a 64 bit OS???
buying a 64bit laptop or whatsoever, the reason why is this for me is that 64bit os can support more memory, and i think 32bit os is support only upto 4gb memory and some laptop up to 3 gb only... the reason why we buy 64 bit os install in our machine is that it can support higher memory (8gb,12gb & so on)
Installing application is nothing to worry it can run....all in 64bit OS

Re: 32 bit apps on a 64 bit OS???
this is a very nice thread and very helpful..
thanks sa mga master's dito now i have an idea on how big corporations make their big projects...
where starting up an office kasi, and i learn a lot..
anyway before to im using 32bit os on a desktop quadcore processor, 4 gig ram..
really had a hard time in rendering heavy scenes dahil puro crash kapag nagrerender na..
so i change to 64bit os with 64bit 3dmax,
no problem in rendering heavy scenes, actually, my scenes now are twice as heavy as before pero still kayang kaya..
just a little problem on crash sa viewport at first but when i change my settings to openGL,.nawala ang crash..
from there even my laptop is in 64bit os, pati nga internet bumilis...hehe(may connection po ba yon?)
just having crash problem when im using vray scatter specially on trees..
im still trying to figure out why..
but im not yet recommending 64bit os to my friends who are starting to learn rendering..
i want them to understand the whole system first..
sabi nga madaming matututunang techniques in lowering memory usage when using 32bit..
and i learn also a lot of tips during my 32bit days..
anyway again a great thread..
thanks and Godbless

OT: i havent tried installing max po eh,.unlike other macs like macbook pro or imac (with higher specs,) mac air po is not appropriate in CG works, kasi ni photoshop lang ang bagal na because it is design for that user experience, not for office works (not ms office).pang presentation lang namin sya..hehe..to your question sir i think it depends parin kung ano mas gusto ng user regarding sa version..kasi when you switch sa microsoft os sa mac, naiinstall naman mga softwares for pc..anyway, i havent really tried installing max..hehe..
to topic: either naman me sa two 32 or 64 kasi both are installed at my pc..may mga plug-ins kasi na di ko naiinstall (i think may konting mali sa installation) sa 64bit max like ung 3dyk painter, so nsa 32 bit un den minemerge ko lang..im rendering at 64bit because of my working habits na most of time, i push my works to the limits in a fast phase, so,aside frome the rig, i also need a software who can push me to the limits in a fast phase..kahit nga po autocad ko 64bit..hehe
both have pros and cons,. afterall, 32bit is 32bit and 64bit is 64bit..thats the difference they make..
thanks and Godbless

Re: 32 bit apps on a 64 bit OS???
Medyo na late na ako naka reply ulit at marami na tao nagreply the thread na to..so Im not sure if masagot ko kayo lahat pro il try.
Marami nagtatanong about sa Rig ko.
Actually my rig has no fancy setup. Actually na-iingit nga ako sa mga rig ninyo sa "Show me your rig" na thread.
Mobo: Rampage 2 extreme
Processor: Core i7 940
RAM: 12 gig
video card: Sapphire Radeon HD 5870
Harddrive: about 2 Tera
Heat sink: Gigabyte fan (but i just bought a Thermalright Venomous x last week, i will install it pa when i arrive home next week)
accessories: memory fan, heat sink fan
Casing: Gigabyte Sumo 5115
OS: windows 7 ultimate 64bit binili ko upon returning to philippines. Nung sa dubai ako it was Windows XP 64 bit
I did not overclock my system. I dont need to pa..maybe pag2 years old na pc ko, i will buy proper cooling system to prepare it for overclocking.
There is nothing special talaga sa system ko. What i have learned is ingatan mo rin talaga ang softwares mo. be aware sa mga ini-install mo. Updates, hotfixes and softwares upgrades are very important coz dito usually na-aayos ang bugs. even yung OS ko, after sa first installation, i make sure I download all the windows updates before i proceed installing programs.
--------------
If you can afford, maganda kung bumili ka ng systems like Boxx, but it is not very practical if magisa ka lng. Its very expensive..you can maybe buy 2 units for a price of one unit sa mga brand like Boxx. The only good thing about Boxx is yung services nila.
They will happily replace your system kung masira, or they will charge you for a very low price on the next Boxx system release. Im not sure about this but mataas ang warranty period nila. That is why mga malalaking companies will go for this because although mahal ang initial nila na cost to acquire the units, in the long run, they get the bang for their bucks like repairs and upgrades. But for solo use, dont bother.
--------------------
It is highly recommended na you can start with a 32 bit system specially if bago pa lng or learning pa lng na stage. Because you get to practice optimizations...if maka render ka ng big scenes on a 32 bit and push it to its limits, its really a big plus. But as soon as you find the the 32 bit system could no longer keep up on your needs sa memory, you will decide to move to 64 bit.
Having a 32 bit attitude(optimization, organized, techniques) and bringing it to a 64 bit environment would give you a very big edge...you can be very efficient and you can do more.
I started on 32 bit system and was stuck with that for a long time. I only moved to 64 bit system about 2 and a half years ago pag-dating ko sa Dubai and saw the units of the office. When I saw how strong the system was, how big the project were and 64bit gamit nila to handle the projects, duon na bago ang isip ko. Coz if the 64 bit softwares were not available yet, then yun system was not that capable pa, cguro siraan na yung ulo ko ngayon. Considering sa size and number of project, the gipit sa deadline, pressure sa boss...na-iba talaga ang isip ko sa 64bit system

Re: 32 bit apps on a 64 bit OS???
i've been watching this thread since the first day it was started.. i'm very thankfull to sir cloud for starting this thread and i want also to extend my warmest thanks to all cgp member who shares their insights about this topic especially to sir vitamins for giving us a technical explanation. i have learned a lot from this thread specially for the technical explanations that you have shared us guys.. it's a big help for me since i was a newbie in rendering world.. i am also using 64 bit os and softwares but its not because i knew the advantages of 64 bit it is just happened because when i bought my laptop it is pre-installed by windows 7 home premium 64bit so i decided also to use 64 bit softwares specially max and autocad.. pero ngayon alam ko na ang advantages ng 64bit and thanks to all of you guys for enlighting my knowledge.. i hope this thread will continue pa... more power to CGP..

cant wait to see! Wala rin proof pa until now.
