Canon 500D or Nikon D90?

Hello guys, for the benefit of our foreign members, I will start talking in english now. It seems this community is growing so fast, we are attracting so many diverse people to join... AMAZING!

Anyway, back to my question...

Canon 500D or Nikon D90?

Any advice will help. I am not biased to the brand nor too concerned with the price difference of each kit, since they are almost the same. What I'm concerned is Features and Savings that I might get in the long run... I have looked into each camera's feature and they almost level out in positive and the negatives, I just want to hear from the experts on what they think.

we know that canon 500D is the latest one,compared to nikon d90 and has a much lower price compared to the d90 in the market. though canon 500D got the 15 megapixels compared to d90 12 megapixels. In regards to their fps, 3.4fps for canon and 4.5fps for nikon which nikon is faster.. but in regards to ISO canon can boost up 12800..compared to 6400 for the nikon.

both are good cameras. i think if you get one of this. you will not regret..

D90 rocks im not a pro but i can live with a 6400 ISO... bit confused also where i can used 12800 ISO of canon since the higher the ISO the noisier the photo will be... please enlighten me... but for the fps difference? that's another story hehehe

HAHAHAH ok lng kahit OT mga bro... mmmm marami palang Nikon users dito hahaha!. I'm actually a Canon user. BUT I'm not pro Brand. I can use both and I'm used to it.

But the ratings like I said, somehow levels them out. So I guess all I have to do is field test these babies...

yup..the higher the ISO the noiser the images. I think, with regards to its higher ISO, thats the maximum it could get in regards to a Low Light Exposures.but of course digital noise should be considered acceptably. so mag test test ka pa rin...
In regards to fps, thats the frames per second. If you press the camera-"tick"- thats your frame per second.. I hope i got it right..hehe. I think d3 got the faster one... it reaches around 9 fps..

nagwagi is canon 450d... for me lng un ah..

kung high ISO ang labanan, syempre panalo D90 over 500d. at ISO 1600-3200 mas nareretain ng D90 ang detail, whereas sa 500d smeary na siya. so from ISO 6400-12800, even if it's there, mejo pointless gamitin.

although ang advantage ng canon - typical with any other canon camera - is the silky smooth images at base ISO. i think for portraits, mas maganda canon.

para sa akin mag nikon d90 kana, sabihin mo nang latest model ang canon 500d, hindi parin uubra sa mga features and setting ng Nikon...

sayang di kasama ang D80 or older models sa choices coz i'd strongly recommend it specially at these times when people seeks the best bang for the buck. sa workflow, lenses at mata lang naman nagkakatalo yan. if you have an inferior gear, work around its limitations and device a workflow that complements it's weaknesses. but if i were to buy and have the two models to choose from, i'd go for the D90. it ergonomically fits my hands well (like the d80), features are more than my D80 so more than enough for my needs as a hobbyist, latest model pa kaya more pogi points to boot.

i've seen my friend used a 5d with good lense and took an awesome video clip of singapore. I think 500d can do the same with a cheaper price. video option, i'd go for 500d. it's new and cheap.

just to share a bit of thoughts Bokks about video thing. i started as a video addict since my 1st kid was born. it was ok at first since i had much time to spare. i realized the workflow of editing to archiving videos was very time consuming, to add the gigabytes of hd space you will need a lot. it gets too messy when it piles up (plus the animation frames of your projects, reels, etc), fortunately i managed to sort it out but some footages i reserved to edit until when i retire or once in a while (and waiting for the blue-ray technology to really pick up and gets cheap) coz since i started in digital photography i found the workflow much better coz processing is a quickie and easy on the storage, even posting on the net. that's why i don't clamour for a video feature at all i'm better off with just still images from my camera. but we all have unique preferences, i respect that, and to have video is really cool.

I've been trying to hold off some of my comments since I am not really a knowledgeable photographer but more of a filmaker wannabee. Now that there was some talk about video - I bet I can show a bit of my unwanted biases.

No I do not own any of those cameras, I'm still stuck with my old reliable D40 but I do have friends who own the two cams in question and I've seen quite a bit of their video shoots.

500D shoots full hd but drops down to 20fps. Everyone in video knows this is not a good thing. Lower the resolution to hd at 1280X720 and you get 30fps NTSC.

If you are into filmaking, 24 fps is a must no ifs no buts and this is where the D90 excel, if you can forgive the size (no its not full hd) and the codec.

As a cg enthusiast, I understand that some people think video should be left to videocams and stills to DSLRs. I think the revolution has come when we do not need to log two cameras to shoot stuff for two distinct puposes.
I should be able to shoot video for my animations and use the same camera to shoot my textures - is just two of the many wonderful things.

Which brings me to my last point. If I would have to make a choice between the two for my weird purposes, I won't be getting a Nikon or a Canon. I'd sell my Full HD Video Camera and the D40 for a penny and get the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1.
