Clarification of vray warning messages

warning : Performance loss : number of rendering threads (8) greater than number of light cache passes (4);
some threads thread will be idle.



for me. i just put 8 instead 4(default). for the number passes for Light cache parameter.

any some reason?

here is the answer in some forums...

this means that the light cache process is currently being divided up 4 ways (in theory for 4 processors or 2 multi threaded processors). V-ray is recognizing that your machine has 8 available processors or cores and is telling you that it is currently only taking advantage of 4. To fix this change the number of passes in your light cache settings to 8. It should run noticably faster.

I experienced this before.

When I open the 3ds max file in my previous projects in quad core with our new i7 base processor desktop I got this message.

Then I change it to the value of 8, its gone.

IMHO:
I think its depend to the number of processor cores. The value of 4 makes remaining 4 cores idle. So in quad core it doesn't appear when its default to 4.

so the number of passes should be the same on the number of cores you have so that it will render faster,,,tama ba conclusion ko?

but the higher passes you put the more noisy the output will be... pero hindi naman ganun ka noticable

hindi rin chief.. ung quad core ko 4 cores and 4 threads...
ung core i7 kse prang my hyper threading kya 4 cores and 8 threads
