are you refering to mr photographic exposure control.... it can be located on Rendering Menu-->>Effects and Environment ( press 8) -->> Exposure Control, select mr Photographic Exposure Control and the preference will show up.

the settings varies within the scene, no definite settings can be stablish. as long as you know how to manipulate your lights then you are good to go and it depends on the mood you want to achieve. still, practicing will be the best remedy.

as an advice: when doing an interior lightings, i always consider the environment ( day or nights, sunny etch) , the amount of light coming inside the room and the amount of light coming from adjacent room, the types of lights you are using and the color pallete of your room.
