What kind of CG Artist are you??
First topic message reminder :
I just saw this thread in the other forum and just want to have it also here in CGP..Thanks guys!
What kind of CG Artist are you??
One that articulates and stays true to detail in the Model (Pre Rendering), or
One that corrects everything in a photoshop (Post Rendering), or
A little of both?

Talk about cg in the old days - gee that's nostalgic, I remember faking raytraced reflections by mirroring the same object.
I'm also with kabute on this one. Its always easier to learn cg nowadays but optimization is skill one can only learn thru experience.

Re: What kind of CG Artist are you??
Thanks a lot guys for all the responses.
Me im 98% percent 3d 2%photoshop. As much as possible ginagawa ko lhat sa 3d.Thats because of revisions.
Pano nga ba ako napunta sa CG?? 2years ago i tried applying as a designer or whatever position suited for me in Dubai but unfortunately wala tumatanggap sa kin kse nga daw di daw ako marunong mag 3D or mag cadd or mag photoshop man lng. As in zero.hehehe. Kse that time naka focus ako as a designer. Hindi ko napansin yung importance ng 3D. So ayun i have to learn kahit na onti. Then yun na,ang hirap pala. Its not easy as i had thought. Everyday i have to deal with new techniques and style. Nakakalito. Then i met you guys. Yun learning is much easier.
I develop my skills, i tried so hard to learn and cope up. But my time is a lot different from those cg artist before. My time is much easier pero hindi ganun madedevelop yung skills mo in terms of modeling and even rendering. Kse sa dami ng premodeled furnitures nagiging tamad na mga artist to learn more on modeling side. I myself guilty of it.hehehe.But im learning pretty much ok.Next post ko is all modeled by me.hahaha..Kso di pa dn ganun ka ok.Tama lng na makuha ko yung shape. Anyways enough said. Thanks a lot guys for dropping by my thread. More power and God bless!

I wish that we could align the discussion into something like - What kind of an artist should we be?

IM A FRUSTRATED CG ARTIST!! kaya hanngang sidelines nalang ako nakaka render but not that good though.

Re: What kind of CG Artist are you??
It all boils to this word "passion". All artist, no matter what kind of art they are expressing, dapat ay may passion ang isang artist. "one love man", ayos diba. rockenroll

sorry OT na to...
going back to the topic...
meron ka kaseng premise dude arki, so I'll base my answer on that.
I think I'm more of an artist who deals much on 3d rather than doing more than 50% on a post processing in PS.
basically because its easier to revise the images. and also having made all the objects in 3d
you'll have more options on doing multiple views...I used PS primarily on color correction, curves etc. and
some entourage if needed...but for me PS will always be a handy tool for all CG artist.

Re: What kind of CG Artist are you??
kidding aside mga sir, dagdag ko rin, dapat ang isang artist ay always thirsty sa knowledge. kasi part nang pagmature nang isang tayo ang creativity, resourcefulness at syemprehhh, dapat din ay may talent talaga. talent separates us to the normal output. thats why successful artist is always different, tipong read between the lines and see things in a different perspective. hmmmm. i guess all in all, samahan din nang good health, para makapagisip nang mabuti at tama.
Re: What kind of CG Artist are you??
Mamoo, all this talk about passion has been talked about in previous threads. Sorry I cannot point you there as I cannot find the orig thread.
Passion, its more of the spirit - I'm more interested in hearing what we ought to be in terms of technicalities or workflow. Ya know we can all talk about ideology but it's all spirit - it has to be there in the first place no question about it. Now after all the passion in you - what workflow or attitude works best?

Re: What kind of CG Artist are you??
i agree sir v_wrangler, hmmmm... i think the best is "time management", for me (in our line of work-exhibition stands mostly) ay paspasan, dapat sabay ang speed at quality. doingso dapat and artist/designer must identify the problem first (space requirements and budget/cost of the project), this initial stage dapat meron nang nabubuo na design sa mind mo para magtakeoff ka na sa modelling and mapping/rendering. or sometimes it works in vise versa. may design na, then ififit mo nalang based on the requirements nang client.
i guess sa lahat nang design problem, what is common is its sense.

Re: What kind of CG Artist are you??
ooooppppps..... sori to the TS for the mislead.
we had tackle na pala on the previous thread...
for me... as much as i could, i do them most on 3d..para isang push button nlng.pero there are things na d mo cya napapalabas talga sa 3d which i need to do it in PS..thats why it is also a mixture of generating them.
for example - yung mga sample images nng clients..sometimes i used in PS para at least makuha talga ang particular color.. coz there are clients who are very particular and specific..
so its a mixture of both. cheats and faster..

ako sir kalmante lang. kung ano gusto ng cliente o ng boss. pero my preference tlga is basta artistic ang dating.
Re: What kind of CG Artist are you??
I am a mixture of both but I'm more on 3d..kung baga 90:10 ang ratio. I do model sometimes all furnitures needed...sometime kinakahuyan ang evermotion whehehe..

i'm also one of a thousand cgpinoy member na nagresearch at bumasa nang sangkaterbang tuts & files making self study on how to make a good presentations as long as visualisation is concern.

Alwin you are free to email me if you have some questions - I'll try my best to help you out if I know the answer.
Going back, self study is the norm, kahit pa meron mga eskuwelahan na ngayon. It should never be a disadvantage - in fact, self study is the greatest teacher of them all - couple that with experience, which unfortunately the young ones do not have. So cheer up old guys (kasama ako ron).
I am seeing a trend here where people tend to do everything in 3d. Whether that is for self-gratification, katamaran or kasipagan, I leave that to you.
I still believe that the workflow will always be dictated by the market, the purpose for which you are creating the imagery. Which brings me to my old point - work only on the things that will be seen by the camera.
If you have an object that will be seen only for a single frame, you'll have the option of either adding that thru PS or by using some of the images or objects from your library.
If the camera will be flying around and the object will be seen from various angles, then doing that in 3D is the best thing you could do.
The last bottomline, of all vertex bottomlines, Use what suits you BUT if this is your profession, do what serves your paying clients. Remember that the client isn't concerned about how many days you've foregone sleeping, or what tools you used or how expensive the software was. They are only concerned about the final output. So if you are a wise guy and I think you should be - use the energies wisely, don't waste your time 3Ding the next star wars if you can achieve the same illusion by faking or using old school techniques. Unfortunately, its hard to get even come close to star wars!
Learn photoshop - it will definitely save you time and effort.
