First topic message reminder :

.

February 19 2009

Command:EXTRIM

To see this command in action, draw a rectangle with LOTS of lines going through it. Then type EXTRIM and select the rectangle. You are then prompted to “specify the side to trim on: “. If you pick outside the box, it trims everything crossing the box around the outside and you are left with just the lines in the middle. If you select inside the box, it trims all the lines inside the rectangle and leaves the lines on the outside. Sounds a little confusing? Give it a try and it will make perfect sense.

Very cool!

How do I disable 2004 Drawing Passwords?

- February 23, 2009-

The password on 2004 (and higher) is a potential nightmare. One scenario is a disgruntled employee who decides to password protect important drawings on their way out the door.

When installing, consider choosing the Custom Install, and turn off the Drawing Encryption option in Special Features. After installation use this procedure.

1. Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2. Choose Add/Remove Programs.
3. Find AutoCAD on the list.
4. Choose the [Change] button.
5. Choose 'Add or Remove Features'
6. Choose 'Drawing Encryption'
7. Choose 'Entire Feature will be unavailable'
8. Choose [Next] until complete.

1) on layout:
"MVSETUP"
- here, you can rotate the presentation of the dwg in the viewport by changing the 'Align' property. no need to rotate the dwg on model

2) use "ltscale"=1 in model space
use "psltscale"=0 in the layout viewports

- these variables are useful for hidden, centerlines...etc., with different scale...in order for them to appear "same" in model and layout...

3) there are times, kung maraming masyadong viewports sa layout, the objects inside some viewports do not show, u can select the viewports with objects shown, right click then choose the '...hide objects..'

4) using 'group' on layer manager, this helps a lot especially if u want to easily 'hide' or 'show' some layers for specific printing purposes...(structural/architectural/plumbing/elect'l...etc.)

For some unknown reason, when you select a line segment using the PEDIT command, you get the following prompt:

Object selected is not a polyline
Do you want to turn it into one?

Is this a trick question? …if I didn’t want to turn it into a polyline, I wouldn’t have selected it using the PEDIT command. Why would you even ask?

To get rid of this irritating prompt, there’s a system variable called PEDITACCEPT. Not only did the programmers of Autodesk write a st***d prompt into the program, they wrote an additional command to get rid of it. They must have been bored.

Anyway, type PEDITACCEPT, set it to 1 and it will never ask you again.

Command - SDI ( single document interface )

value = 0 ( you can open multiple dwg in single autocad window..
value = 1 ( you can open 1 dwg per 1 autocad opened window..

This is usefull when you are using multiple display in your CPU.

I hope this will help some..

Command = Whiparc

Controls whether the display of circles and arcs is tesselated or smooth.

0 Circles and arcs are tesselated, causing these objects to display as a series of vectors.
1 Circles and arcs are not tesselated, causing these objects to display as true circles and arcs.

Sana makatulong .. Try it men! No need to regenerate to smooth arch & circle!!

How do I switch between overlapping viewports?

When you have two or more paper space viewports that overlap or are contained within another, it can be difficult to impossible to switch with the mouse pointer. Therefore the keyboard command for this can be indispensable.

The keyboard command USED TO BE Ctrl+V, but since Windows knows this as paste, Autodesk changed the command. The new command sequence is Ctrl+R. Try it...

COMMAND: GATTE

THIS COMMAND IS VERY USEFUL IF YOU ARE WORKING WITH MULTIPLE LAYOUTS WITH ATTRIBUTE ON TITLE BLOCK OR ON DRAWING ITSELF.
Just type in the command promt GATTE, then select the attribute on the title block or on the drawing, then type in the new
[color=cyan]value of the attribute you want. and then look for the other layouts they were changed simultaneously in one command.

Very useful ito kung gumgawa kayo ng mga drawings n maraming layouts tapos may title block sya na naka attribute. hindi mo n
sya edit isa isa, GATTE mo lang s isang layout lahat sila magbabago na..

Hope this one helps

AutoCAD's Geometry Calculator

People often don't know about AutoCAD's built in geometry calculator. While it lacks in interface appeal it more than makes up for it in capability. Take the ability to snap to a point between to endpoints. Consider this example where a circle is placed halfway between the endpoints of two lines.

Command: CIRCLE
Specify center point for circle or [3P/2P/Ttr (tan tan radius)]: 'CAL
>> Expression: MEE
>> Select one endpoint for MEE:
>> Select another endpoint for MEE:

The key is when prompted for any point, enter 'CAL and type in the expression. In the case of MEE it knows you want endpoints and you don't have to use an object snap when picking. Also bear in mind that MEE is only one of dozens of expressions available at the prompt. Read your AutoCAD documentation on the Geometry Calculator for more.

GEOMETRY CALCULATOR VARIABLES

DEE
dist(end,end)
Distance between two endpoints

ILLE
ill(end,end,end)
Intersection of two lines defined by four endpoints

MEE
(end+end)/2
Midpoint between two endpoints

NEE
nor(end,end)
Unit vector in the XY plane and normal to two endpoints

RAD
rad
Radius of a selected circle, arc, or polyline arc

VEE
vee(end,end)
Vector from two endpoints

VEE1
vec1(end,end)
Unit vector from two endpoints
