Re: max shutdown while importin gth model
Details.
Is the model a max file too? Judging from your vague description, it might be a max file; have you tried merging? You are importing so it might be a 3ds file too. Hard to give a solution with insufficient details.
My guess would be; the file being imported has a humongous file size. Or the file itself is corrupt. Or a billion other things.

palagay ko wala sa pag import ng files or MAX problem...Try to check your PC or Cooling fan, baka naman sobra na init nyan, isa ring problema ay power supply mo, isa ring problem ay baka naman Video Card....check mo lang.

Re: max shutdown while importin gth model
check out these import settings...
check out these unit inputs... my PC did not shut-off with these unit set-up...normally what i do is i always match all the unit type on the system unit box and on the incoming file unit slot when i import a cadd model to max and it always worked out well naman.. its the first time i encountered a PC shut off matching all the units... so i tried doing it in millimeters and it worked naman so i went along with it... i just don't know if its the correct thing na i-tolerate ko ito since it worked naman... any comments on this matter for the sake of information???? Thanks in-advance
