after all the reviews, it will all boil down to your budget dude...
kahit alin sa dalawa palagay ko panalo....

Re: NIKON D5000 OR NIKON D90?
D90. u dont need a tiltable screen. plus walang built in AF ang D5000. u need to buy lenses with AF motors.
for example
1. nikkor 12-24 with AF (almost S$2k)
2. tokina 12-24 no AF (almost S$800)
u can only use no. 1. if u get the D5000. sa D90, u can go for no. 2. well, pwede naman, un nga lang, mag ma manual focus ka.

Re: NIKON D5000 OR NIKON D90?
Try to read dis link...
http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/28/nikon-d5000-review-head-to-head-with-d90/
I would go for the D90. I have one...hehehe
Joking aside, D90 is built more for quality picture and is a mid range inn professional photography...Its also been labeled D300's little brother.
D5000 was created to give more amature photographers. The body is not as solid and it lacks the internal motor that would let you use most Auto Focus Lenses.
the tiltable screen will not really be that important...maybe if you will be shooting video all the time because it uses the Live view....but if you are going to be taking nice pictures, you will be using the Viewfinder. you have better clarity and better view using the View finder for taking your shots..
I hope the link helps. Read the replies of some people on the site i gave you...youll have an idea how the unit compares....Goodluck bro...

just to add:
the D5000 has the capability to record time lapses (it can shoot in intervals) while the D90 has none.

Re: NIKON D5000 OR NIKON D90?
as for newbie like me, im eyeing the d5000, 2009 release lang din kasi.. overkill na sa akin yung price ng D90, pero kung unlimited molah, sa big brother na ako..
sa specs, the d5000 looks like a downgraded D90 without the built-in AF and but with new features..

Re: NIKON D5000 OR NIKON D90?
In Singapore the prices are as follows:
D5000 - S$1200
D90 - S$1530
Both have the 18-55mm VR kitlens.
This would be an easy choice for me if I was a newbie - I'd still grab the D90. Reasons being:
1. For the S$330 (P10k) difference, I'd be having the AF motor in the camera with the D90. Future lens purchases means I don't have to get AF-S lenses which are normally twice or much more expensive than the AF versions. For example with the D90 I can get the wide angle without AF-S for less than S$1k while with the D5000 I would need to get the one with AF-S (normally between S$1.8k-S$2k). And this is only 1 lens. Future lens purchases would probably result you spending more when you could've spent less if you got a camera with a built-in AF motor.
2. Though the mechanics of the D5000 and the D90 are the same, if you try to use an LCD with 920,000 dots is a much better feature compared to a tiltable LCD with only 230,000 dots. Not that it's bad - but it's almost like getting the screen of a mac compared to a normal PC screen. Clearer and sharper.
It's a good investment, if you don't mind spending a little more. Otherwise if you're a newbie, in a tight budget and just getting to know digital photography, the best option would still be the D40. Personally I still use the D40 for portraits as the skin tones of the D40 are much better than the D90. The D5000 has features you'll find out soon that you don't really need. (even the video, which are both crappy in the D5000 and the D90). At only S$700 (for a brand new D40) spend the excess dough on good lens/es (55-200 VR AF-S [S$200+] and a 35mm 1.8 AF-S [S$300+]) and / or a starter flash (SB-400). You'll get more nice photos with those combinations.
Just my two (almost three) cents worth. Happy shooting!

Re: NIKON D5000 OR NIKON D90?
GAnun ba, guys advice din pls. i'm totally new sa photography pero i'm considering to make it a hobby. eto ang problem ko:
Gusto ko yung may video features like D90 pero up to 5 mins lang ang max time then mapuputol na. TAma ba?
720p HD video capture at 24 fps (1280 x 720) Up to 5 min clips
• 640 x 424 (24 fps) Up to 20 min
Ano mas maganda, bumili ako ng mas mura na D40x or D80 then benta ko pag may new version of D90 na magkaron ng unlimited na video capture depending sa external memory? or enough na tong video feature for DSLR?
Do you think mag lalabas ang Nikon ng unlimited clips.? parang sa CP video feature dati? kindly advise.
Or would there be a firmware that would extend this video clips..
regards,
ariel

i guess... if you have the budget.. i'd go for the higher one. kc mag upgrade ka rin din naman sa huli. para iisang gastosin nalng. pero if nagtitipid ka. d80 is also recommended. try nyo rin sir seek from canon, mayroon din clang magaganda products this time.. Enjoy hunting..and photoshooting as well!!

noob pa rin lang ako sa photography bro... imho medyo mahirap kumuha ng patent para magkaroon ng "unlimited" video recording ang dslr camera kasi mamamatay ang videocamera business. kung bababaan mo rin ang resolution ng video mo ay pwedeng mas mahaba pa sa 5 mins... pero hindi rin advisable ang video sa d90 bro... kasi not that good daw ung quality according to the pros... for me ayos na un hehehe and using a camera for a lot of video recording is somewhat strange... why not buy a videocamera instead? they are cheap nowadays...

I also think so bro, enuff na yung clips na yun. just need mga 5 mins or so sa video. then yung quality di ko naman need na sobrang ganda, basta ma ipost sa youtube at ok naman , go na . ang primary function na mahalaga eh yung photo and base sa mga reviews eh ok naman ang D90..(hope so) hehe

Re: NIKON D5000 OR NIKON D90?
so is this now a toss up between the D80 and the D90?
Really depends. If you'll grab a 2nd hand D80 for less than S$800 go for it. I've seen folks selling their D200's for about S$1k, and that is a much better camera than D80. Otherwise if you've got S$1500 go for the D90. Being a D90 owner I really have little use for the video and for what I paid I see it just as a bonus. It's the great pictures that made me upgrade to the D90.
