Re: crazy bump
Here's the original file rendering
The bumps are actually working, this is noticable in the columns since it has no diffuse map, the patterns you see are actually the bumps. The details and bumps on the steps are not noticable because of the way max handles bitmap filtering. There are two solutions that I could think of to make them more prominent; one is to turn off Bitmap Filtering in the Globals parameters and simply let the antialiasing filters (Catmul-Rom as set up by Erick) do its work.
Here it is without Bitmap Filtering:
While it might not be perfect, you can now notice how the bumps on the angles frontal to the cameras look better than with Bitmap Filtering. This can be further improved by adding a bit of specularity. Like Standard mats, you will not see your bumps if you do not make them specular:
The problem lies not in the absence of bump mapping but by the extreme angle the camera was set. Remember that Max will try to filter the fine bump maps and diffuse maps that Erick was using. The task gets nastier the farther the details move away parallel to the camera. If you try to render the original file from a different view, I am sure that it will be visible. The second way to make them visible is of course thru displacement mapping.
Goodluck.

Re: crazy bump
And btw if you ever use Displacement Mapping, use VraybmpFilter map - it doesn't smoothen out the maps like max default's does.
Re: crazy bump
wow.... you're truly a messiah... hehehe... where can i find that vraybmapfilter map? sorry la po akong max dito sa office...

Hello Erick,
If your vray installation is set up properly - you will find it in the mat/map browser. It's a regular vray map along with vrayhdri, vrayedgestex, etc. etc.
Re: crazy bump
Jeeze Vert where do you find time to analyze everything? Its either you've got a huge obsessive-compulsive disorder of godzilla magnitude or you've somehow found a way to slow down time without you actually slowing down with it...
Very helpful tips kuya...

Bunsoy - perhaps it's the itch in me I had a few minutes naman kanina during my lunch break. I hope Erick sort it out na.
Salamat din Austria, sometimes it helps to know that some things are bound to happen - we can only avoid those things from happening if we know what actually causes it.
mamaya ulit!
