I think you can achieve that pag iniksian mo ang distance at lakasan or taasan ang value ng ies.

add lang, siguro pili ka ng IES mas tatama sa gusto mong effect ng IES. i have this kind of IES naka ready na then pumipili na lang ako then adjust na lang ako sa power.

I think sir vray ies don't have the option of adjusting it's shadows softness (ewan ko lang sa latest versions kasi di ko na ngayon alam nagyayari sa mundo ng CG ) as for me I always use max's photometric lights under the shadow param. increase your area shadow's size, the larger the size the softer your shadows it becomes, (and oh use the vray shadows) hope it helps.

Vray IES (no options for shadows softness)
Photometric light
by increasing your UVW sizes will make your shadows softer just play with it kasi dependi sa gamit mong units yung size na babagay sa gusto mo..
