First topic message reminder :
In the beginning there was Scanline

celes wrote:thanks for the insights guys. lightscape was by far one of the best and cleanest GI renderers but the interface is dragging to use. would ve been good if they developed it further, but of course among the current GI renders nothing beats the speed and ease of use with Vray. (There is no argument to this, sorry to the Brazil and Maxwell lovers.:p)
as for the ot-but-spot-on replies (cloud, vertex, bokkins, arkibons, 3dpjumong, kettle) - to the mods, if you feel that the topic is moving towards another direction you are free to move this to the appropriate section (perhaps the CG discussion or tambayan area) as this thread means more than the renders posted.
i shall come back with my replies at a later time. for now work got in the way.
my second to that sir maganda topic to ha ha ha for sure !lipat na kaya to...

Re: A Story of 3 Renderers
After Scanline and during Lightscape and before all the renderers out here, we had Raygun, RayFX (your default raytracer in Max now) and a bunch others. During the old days the fad was fast raytracing and ambient lighting either radiosity or just a rig called dome lighting...
Unfortunately I don't have renders to boost the already beautiful imagery here by kabayan celes...
See you in Sapporo Celes.

bokkins wrote:klarong klaro ang timeline dito bro. Jack of all trades master of all ka talaga. Wag ka muna magretire, hintayin natin ang software na magpapataob sa vray. haha. Love all the renders bro. Love all your renders! Although malupit na ang students mo tulad alex, but we still need you in this business. mag branch out ka nalang ng iba pa. haha. expansion is the key.
hehe thanks a million neil.. actually, ako ang student ni alex and not the other way around.. ang tinuturo ko lang ke alex is kung pano mandaya para bumilis ang render hehe indeed we are trying out a new line of business. archiviz will always stay where it is, but as rapidly as the industry moves, so should we.

See you in Sapporo Celes.
True, sama mo pa ung radiosity (as mentioned by sherwyn) plus light tracer. But AO and Mental ray has always been around too, something to consider as a potential alternative since kasama naman siya sa MAX bundle.
Sapporo it will be.. hopefully!
Dalaw ka rin ulit.. Singapore beckons! Sagot ko ang Asahi beer mo this time.

Re: A Story of 3 Renderers
I remember most of the images shown, as sir celes showed me these, years ago(?). In fact I have kept an old scanline render of one bathroom scene done by some guys here namely, the vertex, jon, siopao and celes, it was a single file with renders or versions done by them CG giants from long ago.
Awesome scanline work sir..something that i almost mastered have i not been introduced to vray by sir tutik(glennoe). It's like looking back to what you have done, and looking forward to what is instore for you.
That lightscape render is also cool. Never got the chance to try it though, but I always see an ad of that engine in early CAD digest magazines (circa 2001, if my memory serves me right).
And an awesome vray post. What version is that? was this the vray 1.09 version, that one that was not yet equipped with a vraysun and vraycamera?
It shows how far your skills are sir. It's like you can render something, even if you are given a pentuim 3 computer (ah, the early days of viz4, radiosity, and light tracer, and the e-light plug-in), you can still churn out something awesome.
On a side note. That sabbatical thing, almost got into me too. A couple fof years back, I actually thought of giving up on this discpline. Who would not, if after 4 yrs or so, of trying to learn the ins and out of the trade, you could not even get or even equal the quality of someone who only started 4 or a couple of months back on vray rendering. I was lucky enough to have worked with the great enigma on several projects, but it seemed that I was not skillful enough with the 3d thing, in terms of rendering.
But the mushroom, got me into trudging on, inspite of all the shortcomings and difficulties that I was experiencing with working on scenes.
I guess, when we see the big picture from outside, then we will begin to realise that we still need to go on. Learn from the new guys, and improved what we have started.
Now this has gotten too long, I still need to proofread it later on, just pardon if there be some grammatical errors or whatnot. Be back in a while.
