CG artist but cant draw (is it a pre-requisite)

Gusto ko sana maging CG artist/animator/modeller/etc pero hindi ako marunong mag drawing. Is it a pre-requisite ang excellent drawing skills para maging animator/CG artist ka? I.T. kasi ang course ko at Im aiming for the multimedia side unfortunately hindi ako marunong mag drawing but im starting to learn 3dsmax little by little. I started to do adobe photoshop muna then > after effects > then 3dsmax. Pangarap ko kasi to kaso nawawalan ako ng pagasa kasi hindi ako marunong mag drawing.

In my side bro hindi namn cguro pre-requisite na pagiging cg-artist na marunong kang mag drawing,in the first place di ka nman mag mamanual drawing sa monitor diba, ang importante kasi sa pagiging cg artist I think is kabisado mo ang software na gamit mo yun ang pina ka importante, para alam mo kung anong gagamitin mo sa pag bou mo sa mga obra na gusto mong e achieve..saka kung pursigido ka talaga maraming paraan bro.....sana makatulong..tambay ka dito...maraming mababait dito...

arts at imaginations lang ang kelangan katalo na! kahit di pa mahusay mgdrwng

for me sir, ang importante ay, kaya mong i-interpret ang idea mo sa kahit anong engine, mapa cg man yan o hand sketch. ang importante ay practice, practice, practice and patients and with pure talent, its a plus. kaya mo yan bro.

me i'm 3d renderer an architecture pero hindi ako marunong mag sketch !
importante yung marunong kang magcomputer

isapuso mo ung pangarap mo dude...an artist is to express one's self.

in the heart lang yan bro an artist can be called an artist if love nya ang gwa nya and madami humanaga sa mga gwa nito..side kulang yun,,san fer kurin par agyu muyan

actually pag nag cg ka na...di ka na halos magdradrawing e.......aralin mo lang mag cg...marami dyan mga artist di marunong mag drawing......ma inspire ka sa kanila dude....saka iba iba din ng klase ang cg artist meron sa matte painting, 3d modeller,...etc.....kung saan ka magiging mahusay im sure meron lugar ang cg para sayo dude....

salamat salamat. i started practicing last year magaral ng adobe photoshop and after effects para 2d muna. then ito na. sana gumaling ako hehe. ill start 3dsmax na ngaun. para mag level up naman ako.

ung free tutorials ng 3dsmax muna ako start para makapa ko muna.

IMO, d importante kng magaling ka mag draw/sketch, though it'd be a big help. Basta ang importante, you need to have a solid understanding of art basics (like anatomy, lighting, architecture, etc.). CG world is big, madaming disciplines ang involved. Just know what you want, and learn the things you need to know to excel in that discipline.

And always keep motivated. The ability to motivate one's self is the most important skill an artist should have. It's your primary weapon.

well its just another skill uisng another media. instead na pencil ang hawak mo pinagpalit mo with keyboard and mouse.. in the end i think still the final output. on the other hand, drawing by hand is a skill which i will recommend na pagpraktisan. and anthing that is skilled based ay pwedeng aralin.

in your case mas magaling yung skill mo sa digital kesa sa traditional.. so nasa iyo yun. pero sa akin dahil nagtuturo ako ng art, i see to it that my studetns know the basic of traditional drawing and at the same time proficient in using the digital media.

kung sa CG animator naman ang gusto mo.. at alam mo na you can show your concept quickly with it, i dont thik you need to. kasi end product mo Computer Graphics diba. Pero yung mga sikat at magagaling na imagineer na nakita ko, halos lahat ng concepto nila nagmula muna sa mga traditional sketching ...

so my advice is do not make it a stumbling block not to pursue it, pero if i may encourage you.. hindi pa naman huli kung magpraktice kang magdrawing... "begin by looking on this topic.. Drawing using the right side of the brain" there is a book by Betty Edwards on this concept.. at nakita ko rin na using this book as your guide at taos puso ang pagfolow mo sa mga exercise. i think with the span of 3 months you will learn how to draw properly.

I think that if you can imagine and visualize well in 3d then you'd do good whatever medium you choose, cg or traditional.
That's because you cannot create or paint something whose form you have no idea of.

i also can not draw ... in details..

it is in your imagination that u can think of something u want to create..

yes u can just draw straight to ur computer.. pero iba pa rin un mey angking talento sa pag guhit..

Pagdating sa trabaho oo ang sagot ko diyan(di lahat)..Interview noon sa UAE ang sabi ng Head Designer "draw a perspective view showing a living room...2m camera level corner side and target the coffee table",pinaspasan ko alam ko inoorasan ako,then sabi ng lebanist medyo naka isometric ng kaunti.."ok put details" dagdag niya..after that CAD revision,Max sample lang na dala ko,PS may pinaretoke..then pinapunta na ako sa boss at nag sara kami sa ofer.Sabi ng sexitary na pinay pag labas ko swak daw yun dibuho sa head designer..

The reason bat kailangan nila ang freehand,kasi minsan ginagamit nila sa 3D presentation lalo na maraming nkasalang sa Max..konting kinis lang at magic sa PS nailalatag na sa kliyente..

Minsan sasabihin naman ng kliyente paki draw para magka idea kami kung ano ang gagawin mo..on the spot mapapanatag mo na ng kaunti ang kliyente at kung ano man ang suggestion nila (ok diba bago mo itayo sa Max)

Minsan mitikoloso ang kliyente lahat ng detalye o ilalagay mo sa bahay niya ay naayon sa gusto niya, minsan may ibibigay sayo na picture malabo at maliit pa (ma iscan mo man sasabog ang pixel kapag na zoom) walang ibang solusyon kungdi i-drawing then babakatin sa CAD,then postscript sa PS

Advantage din kasi lalo na ngayon marami ng renderer mabilis na rin mag buo..so iba kapag may karagdagan ka na skill sa pag guhit

Sensya na sa nobela ko ..share ko lang ito

basta praktis lang at isipin mo na ang kamay mo ang nakakakita..sabay sa iniisip mo

bro..kung di ka marunung mag draw...try to look at nice pictures and nice creation..apreciate everything in little thing to bigger things in your environment, then apply your I.T skills...try to copy and paste what you have seen....and also tyaga,panahon at dedikasyon secreto dyan.....sana ma aply mo 2..l..sana maka2long....okey gud luck

maganda ang magaling ka sa hand drawing...minsan makikita mo din sa guhit mo kung possible ba ang iniisp mo...meron kasing time na na iimagine mo na..pero di lumabas kung anu gusto mo talga...

pero it doesnt mean also na kailangan mo ito for cg...
sa art skills kasi may mga mediums...
and kahit gaano ka kagaling sa arts hindi mo talaga
kayang i master lahat...meron at meron medium na kung saan hindi ka
magaling at medium na kung saan malupet ka...

and CG is a medium....
imaster mo ito...
pero try mo pagaralan ibang mediums...
kasi it will support your CG skills...

and what is important is how you imagine,
concept, and interpret....

madami akong kilala na ang galing sa drawing...
kaso minsan mas maganda pa mga
concepts and designs ng mga average
na nag dradrawing..

try mong pag aralan...
it may not be your talent
but it can always be your skill....

as an CG artist hindi pre-requisite...pero as an ARTIST you need to interpret your idea in any form of medium.The best IDEA is nothing kung di mo kaya ipakita in any VISUAL.it doesn't need to be to good,basta it speak of what are you thinking.

if you really want to be an artist,anminator, then you need to force yourself to learn how to draw, how will you express your ideas if you dont know how to draw?.

Wow....good point mga ka Cgpips. Ako naman ang opinion ko dito is 'Advantage' kung marunong ka mag drawing pero
hindi pre-reguisite. Para sa akin ang visualization is an Art din kung papaano mo interpret ang isang bagay at diyan
sa tingin ko lamang ang marunong mag drawing. Kaya ko siya nasabi na lamang kasi Talent na
yan eh and I believe na kung meron ka niyan mas magaling ka sa Composition, choice of colors, proportion,shadows
at maglagay ng palamuti sa gawa mo. I remember when I was in college kung sino yung magagaling mag drawing
sila talaga yung magagaling sa Rendering eh. I believe Drawing is a talent and gift given by God pero pwede
pa rin natin matutunan like Sir Nomer said ang pagbabasa ng libro............
