Re: Camera Match -- Pano gamitin?
Are you wanting to track an animation or simply want to match the cams to a single frame?
While max's cam match utility works - I do it somewhere else. I stopped using it 5 minutes the first time I touched it.
Nevertheless there is a tutorial I believe in the help files. It can explain to you the concepts without bias. I can't.
If all you wanted is to match a cam somehow, manually. It takes a lot of trial and error. But I know how to make the trial and error a bit bearable. Ask and ye shall receive.
Let me know if all you want is the mano mano vertex way and I'll share the simple secret!

Re: Camera Match -- Pano gamitin?
If your photograph has some meta data information embedded on it (photoshop= Alt+Shft+Cntrl+I), its a good place to start. You can get alot of info from the type of lens used, ISO settings, to the day and time it was taken. Match those settings with your max camera, daylight systems & mr photographic exposure control and that will give you a nice start.
Also, you can google map the location where the photo was taken and possibly download a DEM file and import that into Max...those will all help you get a closer match to your photo.
The last time I used the camera match utility was way back in the beta days...some people can get it to work...it involves measuring reference points in your photo and pressing a bunch of buttons in max
Also, before you match your photo, make sure you do some distortion correction in your favorite 2d package.
Check out my notes on how to properly set up your shot....

Hope this at least gives you some points to think about....good luck sir.

Re: Camera Match -- Pano gamitin?
pandagdag sa post ni AJ:
Tama po yong sinabi ni AJ regarding fixing distortions, Remember that its fine if you are working on a still image.
On the other hand, if you are matching the cams of an animation or a live shot, never ever touch the distortions in post prior to tracking because it will confuse whatever tracking software you use as it takes into consideration the lens curve as well.
For anims, you can fix the distortion after the tracking.

Re: Camera Match -- Pano gamitin?
Salamat mga bro. iv read the help file in max,i just dont get it..maybe il get after reading over and over.sometimes it works.
vertex wrangler: i was wondering if u could share ur secret (mano-mano vertex way)?it might be much easier to do.
AJ: nice tip bro.setting up the exposure will make the rendering closer to the desired image..i would do that on my next renderings once i get to camera match the images.
Appreciate the help guys..many thanks

Re: Camera Match -- Pano gamitin?
vics - for anims, you would need a dedicated app. For 3D tracking we use Syntheyes at the studio.
Depending on the type of what you need to track, like corner pins, you can do that in after effects.
Sa after effects kung x and y 2D coordinates lang gusto mong track, AF's tracker can do wonders. Champorado, sana hindi ka nagmamadali so I can make a screen capture once I finish the project I'm doing. hanggang kelan mo ba dapat magawa ang matching?

take your time bro..im still watching video tutorials on how to render/lighting in mental ray..im switching to 3dsmax+mentalray from sketchup+vray..im practicing p naman on some exercises and previous projects.trying to figure the right settings for a good-best render.
salamat ng marami bro..Laking tulong nito sa akin at maging sa iba na gusto malaman kung pano gawin ang camera match.thanks.

Re: Camera Match -- Pano gamitin?
Thanks for reminding me about this thread - I'm working on a simple guide pandagdag dun sa thread ni AJ.
Jovanie - Boujou is a highly specialized application. You are correct that it does that in a breeze. The problem is - its not a poor man's app. five figures USD, seven if you count in yens.
If you want to do 3d cam matching professionally - syntheyes is along a poor man's range, less than 400 USD when I bought it,
As for the tuts - sandali lang mahina ang kalaban!
