I haven't seen the first one so I cannot compare. You might want to check the shadow directions on the wall, they seem to be coming from two light sources at different positions. I think the beauty of DOF lies in its seemingly unintentional feel. I understand that it is difficult to make something you setup look like so but my feelings after looking at the images are quite varied and I can only say that perhaps all elements, the woman, the table setting, the backdrop (which look like a shot inside a studio) was obviously staged. They do not connect. Of course, everything we do in max is a staged scene but that's the beauty of scene composition in the hands of a designer, to make a fake setup look like it is a freeze frame of a particular event.

While I understand that this is a practice scene rendering, it can never be an excuse to create a relationship among the elements. Why is my coke here? What is the lady trying to tell me? Is she on a diet? Is she talking to herself? Is she about to pick a card? Or does she simply love peanuts and a middle eastern brand of juice? If the answers fall into place - they will magically transform your images to a very intelligent and though-provoking one. Engage your audience into a story no matter how boring they may be - for they make looking at your images more fun and entertaining. Everything should be there for a reason.

And if youre able to do that - then gee, I'd be a fan! (I admire your other DOF images)
