ORO means gold coins a symbol of royalty and fine living, PLATA refer with Silver coin which the symbol of the lifestyle of commoners and MATA refers to shrubs, the symbol of the working class whose life depended not on symbols of the currency but on what the earth gives, the crop.
In 3 words: GOLD, SILVER, MURDER..

Re: STAIR MYTH (ORO. PLATA. MATA)
sa experienced ko case to case basis like for us who work outside our country. some nationality doesn't have this belief even if you apply it to your design they doesn't bother about it. I believe that this belief didn't originate from the chinese because from the word itself is Latin, though probably the chinese have their own rendition of this belief using mandarin or pokien language.
Still not bad to use or apply it as long as it doesn't affect your design by whole in a bad way.
Gold, Silver, Shrub or grass not Murder or Kill (Matar=portuguese/spanish).
Bien Amigo!!!

Re: STAIR MYTH (ORO. PLATA. MATA)
I am currently designing a stairway for a project in our office and came across this thread. I don't think they use our "oro, plata & mata/g.g.b.b." method on their stair design here in the Middle East. However, what I use is the 450mm rule of thumb (450mm=stair thread depth + stair riser). I usually design my risers between 165mm~180mm. Stair count/run/length will be governed by floor to floor height of the structure. Just my 2 cents...

e.g. floor to floor height = 3200mmNorman wrote:sir afterdark.kung sakaling may time kayo paki gawan ng diagram or sketch...hehe...may ginagawa din akong bahay e...ang worry ko actually baka masyadong stiff yung angle, dahil sa proportion ko ng thread + riser proportion.afterdark wrote:I am currently designing a stairway for a project in our office and came across this thread. divide 3200mm by 165mm = 19.39 steps, say 20 steps (will fall under PLATA, BAD)each riser @ 160mm
divide 3200mm by 180mm = 17.77 steps, say 18 steps (will fall under MATA, GOOD)each riser @ 177.77mm
if you use 17 steps (PLATA,GOOD) each riser @ 188.23mm (too high in my opinion)
if you use 19 steps (ORO,BAD) each riser @ 168.42mm
say we use 19 steps, 450mm - 168.42 = 281.58mm tread depth (adjust to 300mm with 25mm stair nosing)
19treads x 275mm = 5225mm straight run ng stair, add landing mahabang run to (note:depth of landing=stair width)
using sohcahtoa, you can compute the angle but i just plot them directly in autocad...

hope this helps...
Re: STAIR MYTH (ORO. PLATA. MATA)
for me i combine the two. oro, plata, mata and good good bad bad. what i do is i write down the number count and i put a markings. on top of each number lalagyan ko ng O P M so on and so forth.. below is G G B B.. the bibilugan ko ang mga number na tatapat sa swerte. for example.. good numbers of steps would be 2 steps kasi tumapat sya sa plata and sa good. 5 steps because tumapat sya sa good and plata, 10, 19, 22, and 25...so on and so forth.....
