Sketchup Tips for Beginners
I think many SU users her can give some quick tips for beginners. share yours.
here are some from me.
1. always take note of using the x, y and z axis. be sure to look at the color of your lines (red for x axis, green for y axis and blue for blue axis.
2. Start using groups early, makes stuff a lot easier. Also start how to edit group, close group, open group etc. this is also useful if you want to export your model in max.
3. Use the left, right and scroller button of your mouse. you can navigate the model easily
middle mouse button to orbit
middle mouse button + shift to pan
and the scroll wheel to zoom
4. Use keyboard shortcuts. you can also tailor your own shortcuts
5. when selecting, be careful, you might be selecting objects behind the wall. turn on xray mode if possible
6. Learn what is "Inferencing" once you know this, modelling is pretty quick and easy.
7. learn about useful rubies. like "mirror".
8. Use layers, it makes the scene manageable
9. Purge entire model regularly
10. Lastly enjoy Sketchup.

Re: Sketchup Tips for Beginners
sir pano mag purge ng model?
a few tips lang from me..
- get used to double click and triple clicks for selecting..familiarize urself with it para mas mabilis..
- double clicking can also be used to imitate ur last command..
example..offset a square by 1m.. to offset 100 more pieces of squares, just dobol click them while on the offset tool..
no need to input 1m for each square..
same goes for other commands..
- u can use the arrow buttons on ur keyboard to lock on to ur desired axis..
- explore, explore and explore more..kung ayaw nyo mag explore..
kapain nyo..masaya naman eh
- lastly...watch the tutorials on youtube..if posible go through all of it..pag natapos nyo un mas magaling na kyo kay sir nomeradona..
hehe joks! peace tyo ser!
un lang po ang sa akin!
sana nakatulong

conventional yung mga shortcuts ko bro. you can do yours too (window/preferences/shortcuts) tapos export mo sila. they will become .dat file then which you can import later in other computer that you are using with the import tab naman.
yung ibang commands, Sketchup has shortcut already. so yung ibang palagi mo nalang sigurong ginangamit yun ang gawin mong shortcuts. yung sa akin mga shortcut ko ay yung mga keys na malapit sa left hand ko. kasi yung mouse sa right hand naman.

Newbie po, pwede elaborate?
kung tama ang pagkaintindi ko... once i open a new file to begin..magset agad ako ng mga parameters (style, components, etc.) then save it even without any drawings then un na ang aking standard choice ko for my own drwgs (kc un ang gamay ko). Tapos kapg start ako ng new file again i'll just copy it para di na ako mag-set uli ng parameters then "save as" to change file name.

ang gawin mo bro save mo yung file na yun kahit walang drawing. kung gusto mo dagdag mo pati yung mga madalas na gamitin mo rin sa vray...
pagsave na punta ka sa Window/preference/template... i browse mo yung sinave mong file..
everytime you will start sketchup yung template na ginawa mo sya magbubukas.. kasama pati yung mga vray materials mo...

Re: Sketchup Tips for Beginners

Re: Sketchup Tips for Beginners
One last question to make or break my decision; does it have the "file link" functionality of autocad architecture? Wherein if i want to change something in my model I just simply modify it in my cad file then file link away to max voila modified model?... I ask this cause i really need that function since i design & model at the same time...

Re: Sketchup Tips for Beginners
my workflow in case i am doing thing in max and want to revise, remodel and change...
this is precisely why i am always saying to always remember to use group always.
anyway incase of revision.
- hide everything in sketchup and just workout on your revisions. export these revised objects, planes and stuff in 3ds file
- import those 3ds file in max.. (lapat na lapat kapg naimport na)
- remove/erase unwated surface.
at the moment kasi hindi pa ganun kasmooth ang workflow between skp files and max files. but i guess this will come soon as man users are doing their stuff in sketchup. the reason why max 2011 can now import skp files.
nevertheless the workflow above i found it so easy.
