Why do you like sketchup?
Perhaps let us discuss why do you like sketchup as alternative modelling of 3d viz.
I will go ahead.
1. I like the push pull tool in sketchup. this is really a timesaver in modelling. At first i misinterpreted this software, that it could not handle accuracy. but after knowing the basic, i was addcited with it and gave up modelling my 3D in Cad.
2. I like the follow me tool... select a profile and choose a face or line/lines... the profile will follow the it.
3. I like texturing. beleive me texturing in sketchup is an ease.
4. I like photomatch. just give me a blueprint and i can model it quickly using photomatch.
5. I like the styles.. very architectural and conceptual
of course there are still some cons like handling polygons, but with good awareness in using layers. workflow can still be expidited

Re: Why do you like sketchup?
i like this video that shows sketchup for pro and layout at the same time
Re: Why do you like sketchup?
parasakin sketchup is one of the best 3d application, mas madaling gumawa, makakapag model in less than an hr. ung mga tools madaling matutunan. maluwag ang screen, d madaming menu na nakakatakot pag bukas palang ng app. best for architectural works.
Re: Why do you like sketchup?
IMHO..i like SU more..pero i will study max din in time dahil mas magagamit cya sa ibang bansa..hehe
ako gusto ko lumaganap ang SU users..kaya ako i make it a point to introduce it to my colleagues..
SU VfSU ftw!!

Re: Why do you like sketchup?
so ibang bansa ngayon especilly sa europe. mga architectural company naghahanap ng SU users. at saka sa england yung mga university ngayon kasama na ang SU modelling as part of their curricullum, with the following reasons yung google sketchup is a free software at yung learning curve is easier.
Re: Why do you like sketchup?
the learning curve of SU is very short..pero kapag namaster mo talaga cya..maganda ang output nya..some people dont like the cartoony feel..

pinagaaralan ko n nga to ngayun..heheeh...turuan mo ako pare nomer..ano b umpisa?
Re: Why do you like sketchup?
- materials - di pwede procedural mapping lalong lalo UVW UNWRAP saka UVW WRAP. diba, naka importante nito.

art i could agree with you. so in any software meron talagang pros and cons. and you have ,mentioned well ang limit nito. on the other hand just for info. may mga ruby (plugins) ang su kaya kahit ano pwede nang mamodel including acurate spirals.
since su is design for modelling and architectural concept presentation (particularly in the initial stage) wala actually lang realistic rendering engine... vraysu is also a plugin. kung wala kang vray. pwede naman ang maxwell at fryrender. not to mention VUE, kerky, hypershot nor artlantis. all of them actually are plugins.
support of photometric light yeap wala pa, kahit yung vray fur, the reason why i also looking with vraymax. but asgvis is also quick, they are planning to put all these in vraySU2.0. of course
overall, su is quick but not as efficient as the other modelling softs like max and rhino.
Re: Why do you like sketchup?
in the end it all boils down to the amount of talent the artist; or to put it crudely, the operator; has....
even if one had all the most powerful resources at hand, yet lack the talent to use the aforementioned, no cigar for you buddy boy...
but a "basic" (artedesenyo's term) tool like sketchup could produce the most beautiful images in talent's bosom...
then again everything, including beauty, is relative...

SU naman is for architectural presentation tlaga eh..
kaya nde na kataka-taka na wala or may kakarampot cyang pang organic, environmental or mechanical design..
i strongly agree with sir cloud20...
prang samson and goliath lng yan eh..hehe

Re: Why do you like sketchup?
jenaro,
good to hear at long time Sketchup user kanarin. ako din nung una hindi ko sya gaaanong pansin. this was still during the time its
with @Last. alam ko parang MSpaint against Photoshop (analogy between SU and Max) pero ok pala kasi it can do real wonders especially in architectural vizualisation. since then nag shift ako from modelling my models in max and autocad with pure sketchup.

Re: Why do you like sketchup?
