Vray Proxy for Beginners (Faster Navigation in Viewport)
Hi CGpeps. Share ko lang tong idea na to about proxy with additional support na rin to sa tutorial ni sir bokkins na Vray Proxy Made Easy. I will explain step by step sa pag proxy ng high polygons na 3d model, there are 3d models kasi na kahit na proxy mo na mataas pa rin ang poly counts.
1. This HD car is a sample ng high polygons na object 406,571 poly count , Select the object, right click Vray mesh export then check Automatically Create Proxies, then click "OK".

2. You can notice here na konti lang binaba ng poly count ng object from 406,571 to 377,475 mabigat parin siya.
Just got to modifier, Mesh Proxy Parameters: ang default sa display is Preview from file, make it bounding box.

From 377,475 poly to 7,379 poly. Effective din to pag maraming puno sa scene naka bound yung mga hindi nakikita.

I dont know what's up with all these ideas, but the polygon count you see there is not really indicative of anything worth caring for!
Max simply hogs because it has to display all triangles in the scene whether they are actual objects or proxied ones. Proxies aren't polygon reduction tools, their beauty lies in the rendering process, they won't take time to process because, they are already canned via the proxy files! All polygon properties, node trnslations, uvs, polycounts are stored already in the text file and called upon for action when the renderer says, "come here i'm going to render you!"
All objects in max are analyzed, processed and tesselated before rendering. That's pretty much transparent to the user. It just make you wait. When you are rendering and it takes time, that's the tesselation process doing its job.
Now, to make your navigation in the viewports faster (and this applies to all objects in the scene - proxies or not), either display only the nth polygon or display as a box via object properties.
Proxies have this feature built-in, either by typing the desired polygon count in the VRAY MESH EXPORT menus (Faces in preview) while converting or after, via the modify panel, by selecting bounding box, preview from file, or point.
Try selecting either of the four above, and you'll see the polygon count interactively go from a few thousands (depending on the limit you typed during proxi'ing) to 1 for point display.
So there goes, think of proxies as the shortcut or a speedy pill for rendering. It simply pre-tesselate the object for faster interpretation and rendering. It's not a polygon reduction tool or anything along that belief!

Maraming salamat master at maybe this applies nga in faster navigation sa viewport.

proxies or not proxies you can apply the process - DISPLAY AS BOX. just go to its object properties and you will see it there.
