Post by taga_probins Mon Sep 20, 2010 3:17 am

hi peeps! matagal din akong d nag-post dito...i just wanna share some of our works here..it's a renovation proposal and we prepared 2 schemes of exterior. some of interiors done ng kasama ko sa work and this work rendered in Mental Ray and using mental shaders esp. matte shader and camera mapping...mostly nag-focused ako dito sa lighting talaga kg paano mg-match sa real site photo..kaya i rendered several render pases like sunlight pass and sky pass separately and blend them using ps. nahihirapan din ako sa camera mapping...the 1st one is konting changes lg sa existing. the 2nd image yun ang make over talaga..hope you like this guys and if you know about camera mapping and light integration, please, let us know your ideas...thanks ang God speed CGPINOY!!!

Looks nice. Nasobrahan ng reflectivity yung upper yellow wall sa second image.
For putting 3d objects on a static background I use this simple set-up/tutorial from dmmultimedia.com.

@logikpixel..thanks..hirap kc ang tweaking ng mental ray for glossy textures unlike sa vray..but it's a challenge for me..and i'm using dat method too..nanibago lg kc..

@marcelinoiii...hey bro! thanks for the reply..i know that u are a MR user too and i took some tips from you. thanks for the links u shared..and to return the favor, i'll share my setting to you both exterior and interior...honestly, nahirapan din ako sa mental ray..her are my settings:

1. EXTERIOR LIGHT RIGS.

Mental Ray Light Integration Practice part1 EXTERIORSETTINGS

Mental Ray Light Integration Practice part1 COMP

as i said before, i rendered sunlight pass and sky or ambient pass separately..kc d ako kontento sa mr sun and mr sky only...after i rendered both passes, i blend them together sa PS..it is up to you how u blend those two..either color dodge or just a normal adjusting d opacity..

i used final gather only to this and a medium preset..adjust the noise to high..i never turned on the global illumination..and the important thing here is the exposure controls..it's better u use 2009 or latest version..for exposure controls, i used MR PHOTOGRAPHIC EXPOSURE CONTROLS because it achives much more photorealistic than the logarithmic expo.. for exteriors, i set my values here to 13 because i'm using mr sun (KEY LIGHT) here..if u are using standard lights, start ur ev values to 1 to -1..after key light, i turned off the sun and sky and turned on the photometric plane light aboved the model as my AMBIENT PASS and set ur ev values 5-3 i think..

by the way, i'm posting my new updates here...2 schemes pa rin..

Mental Ray Light Integration Practice part1 DSC01297

this is the existing structure..based on the reference photo, i set my lights approx 12-1pm..

Mental Ray Light Integration Practice part1 SCEME1

Mental Ray Light Integration Practice part1 SCHEME2

this is one of my interior done in mental ray too..

Mental Ray Light Integration Practice part1 PLAN

Mental Ray Light Integration Practice part1 FAMILYAREA

here are my setting in interior...it's different than exterior, as usual...heheheh..

Mental Ray Light Integration Practice part1 COMP2

for light rigs, i never used standard lights here, use photometric instead. in vray, we used plain light in window openings, in mental ray, i used MR SKY PORTALS for the window openings to illuminate the sky form the outside..adding some fill lights to help minimize the dark areas..for exposure, MR PHOTOGRAPHIC EXPOSURE CONTROL with an ev values of 8.3 but i start from the default value of physically based indoor daylight..

i only used FINAL GATHER here..set to medium, of course and i pumped up the diffuse bounce to from 4 to 6 for final render..

i hope makatulong ito sayo at sa inyo mga bro! God speed and more power CGPINOY!

Nice interior (update). How about posting more interiors? Mental Ray Light Integration Practice part1 290602

I suggest using Global Illumination for interiors along with FG. Then you can set diffuse bounces to 0(zero) as it will never be calculated if GI is on.

Thanks for sharing your lighting setup.

@logikpixel..anytime sir! so, i have to save first my FG map and GI photon map before use it together? sometimes it takes 48 years to generate them together..since i'm using 3ds max 2009, i rely much on MR PHOTOGRAPHIC EXPOSURE CONTROL and i follow the method of JEFF PATTON and JENIFFER O'CONNOR and it really works for me..mind if u share with us ur method by using both FG and GI maps? thanks for dropping by again..
