How to optimize 2Million poly interior scene?
Masters,
I'm trying to render an interior scene in about 2million poly count in MR and it's crashing really bad. Is 2M poly reasonable for a quite big interior scene?
I tried to bring down the poly and erased unnecessary objects and even reached 590,000 poly only and it's still crashing, some suspected custom objects were deleted as well, I couldn't rendered still, any tips on how to optimize poly in a scene.
I tried to xref all fixtures and furnitures already, should this help? di pa rin kasi pwede...
My last option will be MR proxy, but I'm trying to avoid it since I am hoping I can still make the scene work. My PC in the office is at reasonable specs, even at home, and I can usually render ok with them... itong scene lang po na ito ang nagkaproblem ako.

increase memory dynamic limit. or find "hotfix" for 3ds/vray to fix bugs and errors. i think. 3ds hotfix.usa..... keywords

pre MR proxy mo na....para dun naman talaga yung gamit nun. tapos kung pwede mo mapalitan yung mga items mo na high poly masyado katulad ng mga vases. at mga abubot pa......Good Luck!!! tabing guhit ba yan?

Re: How to optimize 2Million poly interior scene?
I don't think makaya ng system mo ang ganyang scene kaya nag crash. I have a scene before 8M polygon and im using Dual Xeon 3.4ghz 8 core 12GB ram "Windows 7 64bit ha hindi 32bit " it renders smoothly without proxy yun ha ..
daming factors kasi sir .. either ang mga shaders mo, lights (e.a. Blackbody), final gather mo baka sobrang taas which you don't need naman try to start sa draft then test ulit to low settings.. and make use of the technique like save Final Gather first with one material na simple muna tapos render mo using na save na final gather .. same as GI ..
pero most problems occur sa shaders .. hope naka help sir if not tweak natin

Thanks pre! eto testing 1-2-3 ulit ako with Hotfix!!! thanks ulit kay sir egypt! so far so good ang rendering... try ko na ata MR proxy.

Re: How to optimize 2Million poly interior scene?
I remember reading somewhere that when dealing with high number of polygons you should change your Raytrace Acceleration in the Renderer Tab of the Render Settings to BSP2. Try searching through Google I know one of them mental ray gurus preaching this. I haven't tried it out for myself though.
And optimize the maps you are using. Hope this helps.

Yan si sir edosayla- and daming tricks kaya nga ang dami ko din natutunan dyan kahit hindi ako naging estudyante ng mental ray classes niya. hehehe..

Re: How to optimize 2Million poly interior scene?
sirs and masters, problem solved, had to delete a few objects behind my scene and deleted old maps and materials... was able to crunch it down to 1.5million poly with new materials.
sir logik, you mentioned about optimizing maps, is it the bitmap images of the textures (meaning limit the texture images I use) or the uvmap itself?

hehe cheers tayo dyan bro being MR students!!! yun saving FG and Photon map, go to your render setting, Indirect illumination tab, and at the bottom of this page you'll see the options on how to save these maps first in low rez before rendering in high rez... I'll get back to you on this, hanapin ko yun link bro.

ay oo nga pla nakalimutan thanks master logikpixel .. use BSP2 pla hehehe whew!!

markuz bro:
FINAL GATHER, PHOTON & GLOBAL ILLUMINATION FOR FAST RENDER
•Turn on Photon Map, use Read/Write File, then render
•Turn on Final Gather, use Read/Write File
•Lower samples to 1/64 - 1/64
•Render active time segment at every 10 frames
•Turn on final gather Read Only (FG Freeze)
•Increase samples to 1 - 16
•Turn on Save File for Render Output
•Render active time segment at every 1 frame

hintayin ko to mga sir!
Very simple bro:
Sa Render Setup, Indirect Illumination, Final Gather map click Read/Write File. Generate Final Gather Map File Now. After your Render Frame Window stops calculating the FG map click on Read Only(FG Freeze).
Now everytime you render the specific scene that you have "FG Freeze(d)" it will render automatically without having to calculate FG.
One tip, when calculating FG use a small output (render) size BUT with the same(LOCKED)RATIO as your final render size and use a LOW FG Precision preset. After you saved your FG, you can increase the render size output and FG Precision for final render.
Please correct me if I am wrong but this is how I do it.

Re: How to optimize 2Million poly interior scene?
Masters, question na din po, I am suspecting it could be my multi sub object material, is it possible that this specific material is the one and only culprit causing the errors and crashing? kasi po nung hindi ko na ito ginamit nawala ang crash. I tend to use this mult-sub obj material in several objects and even 2 different sub material in one object and 2 assigned different poly... or is it ok to use it this way?
salamat masters sa pagsagot niyo po! very much appreciated.
