Re: Your workflow in importing archmodels to sketchup
actually i have not done it yet as i believe those archmodels are too heavy in polygons and they need to be optimized. if they are not, its actually not advisable to import them to SU. On the other hand it was a question to me also how will you import them if you want to use them. I put this thread in order to discuss a better way perhaps on how to optimize them before importing them to SU. I know some here has done it like JDS, chill and probably others. so i want to hear the workflow..
to answer yur question, I am actually doing a study on how to import them effectively to SU. At the moment im still having some difficutly in materials, therefore I want to compare notes with others.
the workflow at the moment is this.
MAx. Optimized them first before exporting them to obj.. (i know some are using 3ds)
then in Su Im using a pluggin made by TIG so as to import Obj file. The import is excellent yet its a bit slow.

Re: Your workflow in importing archmodels to sketchup
sir nomer sorry ngayon ko lng nakita to matagal na kc ako d nakakapag login. hope this will help a lot specially sa mga nag vvray for sketchup.

hi, nomeradona, i import the archmnodels reducing the polys (to 55k) with the modifiers Multires of the 3dsmax. for conserve the maps you have to avoid the vray materials, you can do this manually convert to standard, or running a 3ds script name multyconverter.
sketchup import perfectly.

Re: Your workflow in importing archmodels to sketchup
i have tried one na parang ganun pero hindi ko parin makuha yung material. i beleive kapag nag export ka ng obj meron syang kasamang .mtl file.
any tutorial bro?
indeed yung clean up script ni thom thom ay magaling.
