sorry, i didn't got it on the first time,... We use to give bouquet of flowers at any occasions, but because of the crisis, we cannot find ways to give anything... but in anyway, i just give my effort in finishing our projects, ( kahit delayed ang sahod).
"our first Christmas was the best, ang dami, bonus plus gifts for me and for my family, but the second and third was not good, our salary were even get delayed...we're still hoping for the next....inshalla..."

This is obviously a very casual but dangerous line of thinking. Contrary to most salaried employee opinion, your absence is a big disadvantage and loss to most companies unless you are an useless or unwanted expense.
The deductions aren't a gift, take it as your penalty. And a rightful one (if that's part of your work agreement)

I gave them all something simple for keeps just to keep the spirit alive, I got "thanks"from a few I also got some nice ones from a few. With or without - this year's Christmas was the spirit of giving so I didn't care if I get anything in return.
Speaking of overtimes, by reading most of the posts in the forum I could sense a very differing outlook by most pinoys. Like most people here think of work as "working for someone". Perhaps this is the real reason why very few end up happy with their employment or relationships with the employers. Think of your work not as "something you are dictated to do" but "something as you like to do". While I understand that it is simplier said than done. This ingrained culture of victim persona is the cause of dissatisfaction, mediocrity, temporarily relief, and difficulties in attaining wealth and personal happiness. And if there isn't anything in what you do that you could like - get out of the system otherwise you just pull the legs of those who enjoy it and you end up boring yourself. Find your happiness, if you can find that in your present work then good - if not - seek elsewhere.
Overtimes, regardless of whether there's pay or not - think of it as your responsibility by wanting to see if from start to finish. Your work is your testament, you do not want others to take credit for it. Anyways if you finish your job earlier then no need comes for rendering extra hours, right? If the boss, gives you another work when you are about to leave - don't tell him it can't be done, Tell him what you'd need to make it happen. There's a big difference. The first is negative, the second is positive and you engage your boss to his own responsibility - that is to come up with big decisions.
As for employee-employer relationship, not only during christmas, think of it as a two-way street, do not think of your employers and companies as the enemy, think of them as your partners, your boat, if you do no nothing to keep them afloat - you to will drown, sink along with your dreams.
Belated christmas to you all.

third demon-syon
OT: para sa akin ang work at company ay parang babae...
mahal ko ang work ko and minamahal ko rin kahit anong company ang mapasukan ko... BUT...
kung hindi naman ako kayang mahalin ng company ko no need na ipagpatuloy pa ang tinitibok ng puso ko hehehe sayang lang, marami pang iba na mas karapat-dapat paglaanan ng sipag, tyaga, pagmamahal, respect, sharing, dedication and loyalty. afterall my colleagues and I can still be friends kahit magkaiba kami ng companies na pinapasukan...

Re: Do you get your boss anything for the Holidays?
i don't believe in getting my boss something. or i don't expect my employees to do the same.
work is work - nothing should be personal.
better just stick with the work ethics - the best gift would be to simply perform as or above as expected.
gift giving to me is highly inappropriate for the following reasons:
1. if you suck at your work and you give gifts you may appear as if you're easing the level of your incompetence.
2. if you are good at your work and still give gifts on top of that, you will be deemed as an ass kisser.
of course this is partially a grey area. for example if you've been really close friends with your boss a long time - if that is the case then keep the gift giving private. do it outside, not for everyone to see or know. if not, a christmas greeting would be enough.

Re: Do you get your boss anything for the Holidays?
Nice replies!
Im just thinking about what sir celes said. I agree this is partially in grey area. My situation is, ive been in the company for 2 years now and im not considering that me and my boss are really close to each other but shes always giving me gift for christmas.Kahit nga hindi christmas basta lumabas sya ng lets say a week or 2 pagbalik meron syang souvenir or something sa pinanggalingan nya.
I tried to observed as well around the office if shes doing the same thing but i feel its only for the few of us. But definitely shes giving those gifts as private as possible. Sneaky talga. Im wondering if this is a bribe or something and im really scared of the effects this cause me in the long run. I know im doing a lot of things dito sa office. I work hard to the point na pati noche buena at pasko ko e nawala na. I dont know why im doing it. Is it because of what my boss is giving me?? Shes giving me so much apart from my salary and i couldnt resist her if she really needs me. Is it correct??Am i doing the right thing?or im spoiling her? Can i say no even if shes begging me?? I dont know....What do you guys think??

@parekoy
bro sobra namang pati noche buena and pasko ay nagwork ka. you have to set your own limits bro. it's a big celebration and tradition for us Christians that even arabs ay nagbibigay ng respeto. Maiilang sayo ung iba na gustong magcelebrate ng pasko na kasamahan mo sa work. my two cents.

Re: Do you get your boss anything for the Holidays?
Hi sir celes, yeah i feel the same way too. And my family feel the same way as well..dec 23 nung pumasok yung project. My boss flew right away from thailand to bahrain. I dont know anything about it then 23 ng gabi she called me the briefing and the client's requirements. Technically we are not on holiday. Syempre arab country pero dahil catholic si boss declared nya yung 24 ng halfday and 25 ng holiday.Every year ganun talga ang ginagawa nya. So here it is we need to produce those images in 2 days kse 26 ang presentation. Shes besides me all the time hanggang sa ma print out yung boards kaya nahihiya nmn akong magpaalam and naisip ko i dont have anybody with me sa christmas naman so cguro pakiramdam ko ok lng.
She gave me 2 days time off last 27 and 28..So i guess oks na din yun.. yun nga lng iba pa din yung 25.

Have you ever looked beneath the favors (re:material things)?
I think you are trying to give meaning to the kindness in terms of material favors. It is fine to look at that way but it is bad to reciprocate in the same way.
Gee, you'll be surpised at how many times we say "Yoroshiku Onegai Shimasu" (I'm indebted to you, please take me to your clout) kind of stuff here.
We do so because we believe that by giving importance to the extent of trouble the other person took to make us feel important and cared, we also need to return the favors as good citizens valuing peace and goodwill, isa pa because they come back to you a hundred fold. Maybe not now, maybe later, not in terms of money, but pure honest to goodness help when you least expect them. Isn't that great?
Think of rReciprocating in good deeds or making sure the other party doesn't lose face to others as your path to sainthood. It is tantamount to good manners and maintaining peace and harmony.
The bottomline is - do you want to be indebted to this person? (like a mentoree to a mentor, like a benificiary to a benefactor), If you are happy about the relationship, treasure it and don't think of it as an obligatory gift exchange. This pain in your heart makes the whole act devoid of any noble meaning.
Like I mentioned in my previous post, receiving gifts or favors and working overtime are two different things, if you learn to view the ots as your personal quest for excellence or a display of utmost responsibility - I guess you won't feel bad about it anymore or obliged to render OT as payment for the gifts your boss extend to you.
Technically, you are free to refuse gifts or favors - but when you do so, make sure that you explain why without hurting and making sure good relationships are maintained.
I wish I have a boss like yours - I'll pamper her with my love and care!
Yoroshiku onegai shimasu. bow.
Re: Do you get your boss anything for the Holidays?
As for work during religious or cultural breaks - it is SOP for the employer to be at least culturally sensitive - if they aren't able to do so, I'd probably get out - of course there are exemptions especially if the host country's culture has a different view or practice, or client deadlines were fixed beforehand.
But what's important - the employee and the employer SHOULD be able to craft a solution so that the client and all the people concerned remain happy and at peace. Do not expect that a sudden observance of religious activities without a word of warning is still a professional approach (I dunno about other cultures). In the same way, I'd probably feel bad if I have a moslem employee in Japan or Manila who decides to suddenly fly to KSA to spend ramadan without asking for permission. Or saying so within a period, that will allow me to find a temporary replacement during his absence. At this time of the century - to assume is a dangerous proposition. It will not be our redemption.
I am sure that a client who will be left unaware whether their project is moving on or not even during christmas or ramadan will be an unhappy one. When they are unhappy, consider losing their business, if you can afford that, then let's go to hawaii and take a break!
To avoid serious problems or cultural misunderstandings, make it a habit to work out a solution with the client, employer or designer BEFORE. If a christian or catholic designer desires to take noche buena and leave all of his work on a still, say so ahead of time so that the employer can work out a solution or find a temporary replacement, who knows - perhaps a moslem designer who have nothing to do on christmas eve would be more than happy to take charge.
While it is the job of employers to make careful decisions for the company and his employs, some employers like your lovers cannot make decisions if they do not know they need to make one. It is our job as crew members of the same boat to call their wanted attention.
I also worked during christmas for 18 years now, I feel bad but it's better than no work at all..
