Hi.. I have a question about shadows in exterior rendering. Every time i tried to render an image using vray for sketchup this is what happen with the shadow::

I use sunlight for global lighting.

Which setting should i change to make the shadow more 'soft' like this image:: (this image is not my rendering)

(i use irradiance map and light cache for indirect illumination)

good day to all cgpians..asko ko lng mga masters regarding displacements...

i have a problem between displacement sa vray material settings and the dispacements sa vray settings..
i have a scene na may grass and pool..grass and pool have different displacements..with regards to its vray material displacement settings wala po akong problem kasi may individual settings ang both materials..my problem is..once na inudjust ko yung displacement sa vray settings sa options ng vray..pareho napaplitan ang settings ng both grass and pool..naapaektuhan ang both materials.. once i adjust sa option settings ng vray ang grass..pati yung pool nasasali na adjustments...
any solutions po?!!..thank po in advance..more power to CGPinoy!

vray displacement is global, while material displacement is not. if you want per material yung displacment ng material ang i adjust mo. kung iaadjust mo ang vray displacement maapektuhan talaga lahat. so if yung material lang ang gusto mo na hinid maapektuhan ang iba. you have to focus on the dispalcement of that particular material.

sir nome..thanks for the quick response..ah ok get it..global pala yung sa vray settings kaya lahat apektado..the reason why i ask this because..i saw one tutorial here regarding grass and how to create one..the tutorial shows that..the vray displacement material and the vray global displacement was both adjusted..so thats why when i try to imply it on my scene na may pool..pati yung pool naapektuhan..so it means po sir na kung i have 2 materials with displacemnet..i'll just be adjusting on its material displacement and leave the global displacemnet as it is?....

Mga Sir/ma'am Tanong ko lang po, I'm using VFSu v.1.5 minsan bagal mag start ng render. Tagal lumabas nung render window. Ano po kaya ang dahilan nito? Sa mga characters po ba na nasa model o sa settings? May naka experience na rin po ba nito sainyo?

nag cacrash po ba ? bago mag start ng render? dati na eexperience ko po iyan. pero may set up ata jan para mapabilis.

this phenomenon usually occurs with high polymodels. lalo na kapag pinutakti mo ng component na galing sa 3dwarehouse. so sa parsing time nagkakaroon ng katagalan. si pareng vray ay naloloko at nahihilo kung sa labas ba ng Component or group ang material o saluob mismo ng group. this has been address with the new version.
pero kung yung 1.05.33 ang gamit mo use a script called "remove c-g materials".

Please describe more about adjust the sun size. Should I change the intensity/sky brightness or is it have something to do with turbidity/photon radius/else? In one particular tutorial (can't remember which one) there is a hint that I should change the amount of the shadow radius. But I can only find that option if I use lights (omni/rectangular/IES), and I can't find it if I use Sky as global lighting. What should I do? I want to make the shadow smooth and a bit blurry in the edge..
Also, is there any way that I can use lights (omni/rect/IES) as sky (paralel shadow)? If yes, which light should I use and under what settings?

P.S. I use Vray SU v. 1.48.89

sukmodotu its the size multiplier. adjust this size multiplier. bigger values means bigger size. the bigger the size of the sun the softer the sun shadow.

pano gamitin yung material studio? may tutorial po ba kyo d2 sir nomer?

dont use it that much. i tried it before. exactly the same as the material editor pero hindi inaapply ang material sinasave lang.
im not sure kung bakit hinid lumalabas.

tanung ko lang po. gamit ko po sketchup pro 6. at vray for shetchup.
ito po ang tanung. select ko yun object tpos right click ko lumalabas un option vray for sketchup tpos click ko apply material.
pagapply ko hinde nagaappear sa mismong model pagnirender lang po.
papaano po ba malink to para automatic magappear.
sa ibang tutorial kase pag bukas mo material editor ng sketchup naka link na siya sa vraymaterial editor. salamat po.

kung yung lumang version ng vray hindi talaga pwedeng magappear. hinid automatic na mapapalitan ang mga material mo sa sketchup.

so ang rule wag mong palitan sa vray material editor, palitan mo material mo sa sketchup mismo.

yung pinakabago 1.33.66 hanggang 1.33.92 or even sa 1.05.33 alam ko kapag nagimport ka ng vismat. kapag sinelect mo ang face apply material to selected face mapapalitan ang lahat ng materials.

so my wild guest is you are still using the earliest version.

mga master ask ko lang kung compatible ba vray 1.05 sa windows7 ?

dagdag ko lang dun sa sagot ni sir nomer...sir di talaga mag apply yan, ganyan din ako dati so ang ginawa ko is pick mo yong model mo na gusto mo apply ng material,select ka muna ng ibang color then saka mo apply yong gusto mo material sa material editor mara makita mo pati yong size nya na projected sa model mo saka mo vray link material sure yan lalabas na yan...wait pala ano ba version vray mo?

Hi im just a newbie in using vray for sketch-up.intericad kasi ang gamit ko dati.

Q. Yung reflection ng mirror ko hindi nagreflect yung colors and materials. Nagreflect naman yung scene, pero bare sya, white lang. Ano kaya ang mali sa settings ko? Thanks!

sir Nomer hindi po ba compatible ang vray4Su7 or version 1.05.30 sa windows 7 32 bit? after ko po na install at pag.open ko sa SU ito po lumabas. pls pa help....

im not sure on this kasi hanggang ngayon XP parin ako. I never use vista too.

@ sir nomer san kayo kumukuha ng mga blocks nyo tulad ng bed sheet nyo d2 (http://www.cgpinoy.org/vray-for-sketchup-tutorials-f97/tutorial_fabric-material-alla-max-falloff-material-in-sketchup-t5333-15.htm ) kasi nung nagimport ako ng 3d s max sira ung mga faces nya. pano b maayos un. salamat.

Sir although hindi ko po maalala solusyonan yan, pero I just make it clear na pwede ang SU7pro at VfSU 1.05 or any version on windows7...
I encounter the same problem before, but forgot the solution to it, but I usually uninstall and reinstall when I saw errors and check if I installed it correctly...
BTW, I am currently using SU7pro and VfSU 1.48.90 on windows 7 and it works just fine...
