Re: VFX THE HAND
Nice Ron! I'm suprised that no one here has commented yet: So allow me:
This is how I'd do a retake no 2: (assuming you'd want to do this in 2D)
1. I'd wrap a blue tape around the wrist that I would key later. Without it the edges will be dancing around and would take away the illusion.
2. I'd separate it into two elements (foreground and background). This will help when you animate the zoom and the pans.
Sometimes to get away with the illusion and to hide the fakery done for the shot - we should use camera moves that mimic the real thing. A 2D digital pan would not give justice to the effects.
Couple all this by showing the thickness of the cut hand (either by 3d or 2D) and you will get away with a much more convincing shot.
Do you have still have the footage without the hand? Let's track it and try the hand in 3d or camera map the background..
Saang komiks nga ba ito?
NOTE: very important for vfx: It is very difficult to do a fantasy vfx because the viewers already know right from the start that the elements aren't real. By carefully disclosing, elements that would contradict the audiences' initial belief (e.g. using pans and zooms that mimic a real camera, by showing at the end - dimension of the hand, interaction with a real person or thing that the viewers can relate to), the audiences get confused and voluntary submit to the illusion.
if the above are achieved - I can say that the vfx can and will contribute to the success of the story.
Goodluck!

"THE WORLD IS A BIG BEAUTY PAGEANT..."
