Terrain and Road - How to? Empty Terrain and Road - How to?

Hi masters. I'm currently making a model involving a complex terrain that needs to be laid with a road and mall. Now the problem is that I can't seem to put the road properly with the terrain.

Is there any techniques which you guys can share regarding this matter? I already tried conform, glue and lofting the road. I already researched the web for tutorial but it seems that it is only applicable in a simple contour.

I am having difficulties especially in making the road planar at one end to another in cross section. BTW, I am using 3ds max 2009.

pwede mong gawin is create the terrain. cut mo yung road from the terrain. just make sure you have an extra copy incase hindi maganda ang pag kacut.

or gawa ka ng 2 copies, then keep the bottom copy para sa terrain mo while yung top copy will serve as your rood. then imap mo na. good luck! Smile

bokkins: that is the usual procedure that I was doing before pero di usually pwede sa situations na maraming bumps ang contour. Image this nalang: may mga bukol mga kalye if I do it that way.

edosayla: I'll post some pics as soon as I get my files in the office.

Anyway my usual work flow with that is like this:

1. Use Terrain mod getting the contour lines from CAD
2. Create plane then conform it to the terrain object for better poly arrangement (Nakakahilo kasi ung poly ng terrain usually)
3. Convert to Poly and make adjustments (Time eater to)
4. Use Shapemerge Cookie Cutter from road lines taken from CAD.
5. Map that road.

But this doesn't always work because I need to adjust the terrain in some ways that it will take some time.

I also use the Paint function in the Mod tool in Edit Poly.

Problem with my work flow is that I feel that I am not making a complete control.

what you can do bro is create a spline with enough points, then offset mo bago mo extrude. then adjust mo nalang ang mga vertexes up down. in that way, flat ang road mo, then cut and fill nalang ang contour mo. either sa max na or sa photoshop.

kapalan mo ang extrusion mo ng spline para macover ang terrain. ang output nito parang may mga areas ka na may bangin. then itexture mo nalang ang side na bato kunyari. good luck! Smile
