Hitchcock Theater Empty Hitchcock Theater

Post by AJ Cortez Thu May 07, 2009 11:38 am

From the archives: I created this exactly 10 years ago today Smile ..Modelled using nurbs & rendered with an oldie but goodie, 3dstudio Viz and it's scanline renderer. It's a very significant piece for me...I had just started experimenting with breaking out light passes and compositing outside of the clean render of 3DS. Presented it to a few people here in NY, and it opened up a lot of doors for me.

Rendering in layers does involve more setup work than rendering everything at one time, but the advantage of being able to finesse your images after-the-fact, in real-time is priceless. Like the first time you sat in the driver's seat of a car and tried ot make sense of the overwhelming amount of tasks involved, it just takes a bit of practice. Once you have that figured out, you realize that you can get alot farther and faster driving, than you can walking. inuman na

Wow....so, this was rendered in passes...the specular highlight pass, ambient pass, shadow pass, hope my memory serves me right....I have read alot about that, but have'nt gotten hold of a tutorial that would point me to the right direction.

Ang ganda....do you happen to have a colored version of this?

Thanks for sharing this with us.

Thanks guys, I do have a color version of this, but the color fabric and paint the client chose was quite garish IMHO. I really didn't like it, and I'll leave it at that. This B/W version is better.

@archiedmund...Jeremy Birn has some nice tutorials on this multipass process. Check out his website at www.3drender.com

Everyone, thanks again for the feedback Smile I can't say enough how lucky and blessed we are - to be doing this type of work! It's like playing with Legos all day, right? LoL.

CGP is the trully the best!

@ Jeff, I used nurbs on the furniture as well, I think you can even see the seams?!
