VRay or MentalRay and why?
First topic message reminder :
Hello po mga sers and mga maams
Ito po ang kauna-unahan kong post dito, pasensya na at maki kulit kaagad ako sa opinyon and personal preferences ninyo tungkol sa subject
VRay or Mental Ray and why?
Given the common notion that VRay is a choice among many, gusto ko pong marinig ang mga feedbacks ninyo.
Maraming salamat po.

Re: VRay or MentalRay and why?
Onel is right (teacher kasi namin siya sa vray last year).....scanline, MR, vray dapat matutunan, depende kasi sa bayad....at sa diskarte....minsan mas madali sa vray, minsan naman mas madali sa MR, pero kadalasan mas madali sa scanline basta magaling ka lang dumiskarte sa lighting oks na....

Re: VRay or MentalRay and why?
mental ray, v ray, scanline..kahit ano pang render engine gamit mo it all boils down to what you want to achieve. para sa akin these render engines are just "blackbox" to achieve your final product.
but for now, i've just been "bought&sold" by the mental ray engine. kulang ang resources for free tutorials, pero ok lang. all i know now about the engine and how it works is through what i read. mas may challenge yung pag-aaral.
hopefully, i could achieve what the masters in mental ray can do, the likes of jeff patton and zap anderson.

Once again, maraming salamat sa mga feedbacks ninyo mga ser (at mam, kung meron? )
Your inputs are much appreciated.
I agree, the learning curve is quite steep sa MR, especially for me na hindi tlaga full-timer in this field of work. Hindi ko lang cya mai-compare against VRay, kasi wala po akong VRay MR seems to be my "reference" at this point, when get into learning other renderers, cguro doon ko na ma di-discover how easy (or otherwise) the others are.
I also agree that it's not the renderer that matters, but how one uses it to get the desired results... (kinda like Canon-vs-Nikon argument and which one makes better pictures )
Nevertheless... I am starting to get the hang out of MR, and having some good results (in my standards, that is ), although I dont have anything "big" yet na ipag mamayabang. It was quite difficult to learn gaya ng sabi ng majority, as the tuts are rare in the internet. I little bit of exploration and experimentation, at doon mo talaga ma diskobre... and for me it is where the fun really was.
I am particularly impressed sa Arch+Design materials which IMO, are surprisingly "straight-forward" to use yet produces convincing results.
Among other things, HDRI lighting, exterior lighting with the sun/daylight system, are among the mahihirap na I must admit, nangangapa ako to get it right, but somehow managed to "tame" it
My hat is off to the gurus

Re: VRay or MentalRay and why?
From the max gurus I work with.
For archiviz and stills ok pareho.
For vfx look at finalrender. Fastest raytracer and renderer for animation.
Problem with mentalray in max is external renderer parin sya. Some plugins are not natively supported. Afterburn for example. Max scenes are translated to mray code and some features in max don't work with mray. Not sure with 2010. Supported na daw fumefx but the other mray issues meron pa. I'm not a max expert so I dont know what features they're talking about. Btw this is the problem with max mray. Xsi and maya have better integration of mray.
