That's it - what do you guys want to see? One hint would be, what is it that you find difficult to do that you've always wanted to incorporate in your works as archi visualizers or animators?

Don't be too overwhelmed with what you see people come up with. Its no use wracking your brains if you don't have any practical uses for it in your day to day job. But if you wanted to learn new skills, then let us discuss what vfx you wanted to do someday or admire.

hmm there are a lot of things in my mind that i would like to improve on since i'm quite new to the vfx scene. how about we talk about rendering in passes first and the different ways of compositing such passes. after that maybe we can discuss camera tracking or matchmoving. oh and of course particle systems.

We could share our conceptualization and brainstorming animation (VFX) in this thread then let the master's drive us in perfecting goal. We could also have a challenge in producing a VFX peice like the lighting and texturing making us CG people one step ahead from updating our skill in the field of CG effects and realistic graphic animation which will be very effective for our field during this recession era to update our skills to the future of CGPINOY... Being in demand in our field wherever we go Filipinos we stay humble. LET THE WORLD KNOW THAT WE, THE FILIPINO CG ARTIST ARE UNITED IN MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN CG SOCIETY!!! 2thumbsup

But I do like your persistence.

Anyways, wag mo nang isipin ang sambayanang pilipino. I encourage you to do your best to learn new skills because you wanted to excel. Anyways - it has never been one's allegiance that would help make your dreams come true. You already have enough burden on your shoulders, so let the sambayanang pilipino feel the urge to excel themselves. Be the example and I'm sure in ten years time - some will follow and then we can turn the tables.

Isa lang sana ang hiling ko sa yo - kung sakaling sikat ka na at isa ng maestro, sampu pa ng katulad mo ang dapat mo ring turuan.

If its a deal then I look forward to seeing you in this conference!

Don't get me wrong pixelburn and this response isn't for you really.

Being filipino or Japanese or American is and should be out of the equation.

First - it turns me off.

Second - where shall I fit in? - I was born a tropical a$$ pinoy but I am very much hapon by heart? Months ago I was introduced to the Lion City and I could be a lioness in a few years time.

Seriously now - This and all that crap about long live pinoy magaling ang pinoy is what I call misplaced nationalism. It would have worked nong panahon ng Bagong Lipunan. Some guys before us became good at what they do because they toiled and talagang magaling, its not because of some pinoy dna that our governments tries to make us believe all the time.

What I'm trying to drive at - do something because you feel the need to as a person, second as an artist. You feel the need to excel. To become Number 1. To ganbaru (persist) as we say here. Don't do it because the whole nation says so and then later on feel bad because it didn't work because the next-door neighbor decided to pick his nose instead of doing the same.

Just do it. Sabi nga ni Nike. And if you do it and do it well, I am sure that the neighbor who like to pick his boogies before will stop and do something worthwhile because he found the greatest motivation of his life. That is you.

I merged wens3d's thread with this dahil isa lang naman ang goal. And since the vertex is already offering some mentoring (thanks V). Kaya better na hindi na kalat. Also, I made this into a discussion kind of thing kahit nasa tutorial section.

Thanks pixelburn, Master V thank u din. Bok ayaw mong patawag ng sir or master kaya bok nalang thank u din sa mga turo. MORE POWER TO YOU GUYS... Now series of questions na para maumpisahan na natin ang pg upgrade ng skills...

I think we could link some movie scenes here from blockbuster movies then we could share in our experience how did they created such effects like in the movie Fantastic 4 "the rise silver surfer" how did they composite 3D animation in the movie. What are the possible workflows, softwares and processes to achieve those kind of effects. I think these industry will survive because many of the comic book heroes are not revived yet and those things we could consider, we could look for stories in the comic book how to achieve realistically the power's they emit. My point is marami pa tayong tratrabahuhin in this industry marami pang di lumalabas na effects na pwede natin maunahan ang ibang lahi and masabi natin sa atin ng umpisa ang lahat ng yan. I want to encourage you guys we have the talent we could just sharpen it and we could make a lot of changes in the VFX industry. 2thumbsup

thanks sir V. I know you have loads of practical sample scenes from 'Ryukendo'. i have to say i'm quite excited if you ever decide to share even a simple breakdown of your workflow of how you and your team tackled one of the shots.

thanks guys sa pagsubaysubay sa thread na to. I'm anticipating a something like an in-depth approach of my favorite tv show "Movie Magic" with your host the vertex sort of thing. This is gonna be great.

To start siguro, I'd like to share ang mga napanood ko sa tv. lalo na sa discovery channel. pag pinapakita nila, parang it looked so easy kasi naeexplain nila ang workflow. like a simple animation. gagawa sila ng model, then kukunin lang nila ang biped info tapos merge. tapos particles nalang sa buhok at mga effects.

Like everyone else. I would really love to learn how to do these things step by step. Mukhang madami ako matututunan dito. Thanks again V.

Sa ngayon. magiisip muna ako ng specific ko na gustong gawin. Maybe effects for the collaboration. Gagawa muna pala ng script. haha. cge, yun na muna.

Sa lahat ng gusto sumali sa discussion, I think you should ask for something specific para masolution natin right away. parang discovering something ang dating. kaya shoot daw sabi ni vertex. buttrock

Very nice initiative mr Vertex. How about a meteor strike on earth's ground. Much like the armageddon shot somewhere in france I think. I tried it once but I find it hard to simulate the rising sand effect without using a third party pluggin.

Anyways, what I had in mind when I wrote that was not really something too particular. I wanted to know what people find difficult to understand. For example, particles and how to control their movement, compositing or how real objects react to light and how to simulate them as max or vray materials. The reason is - you'll seldom find an armageddon shot in your daily work - di ba?

For example, in architectural visualization, learning particles could probably increase your tool box for rain, fountain, etc. For animations or walk-thrus how to animate and control the cameras so they do not look very artificial or staged..

And so on and so on,

Just found an old doc I wrote in 2007 regarding passes so I'm posting it here:

The beauty of passes come handy for animations because it gives you more freedom to make sudden changes to the look without re-rendering the whole set.

For example, you can adjust the strength or range of the fogs in the background by applying a levels adjustment to your zbuffer rendering...

Without passes, you'd need to re-render the whole sequence to do just the above.

Rockgem was asking about ryukendo and I forgot to reply, there's a quick breakdown of the cg we did in 2006 and you can find it in my multiply site.
