Complex Fresnel/ Basic Vray Material (Metals)
Rendered Using Complex Fresnel Plugins

Metals are a special case – in their pure form, they do not have a Diffuse component, only reflections, those reflections behave differently from non-metals. They are much stronger, the fresnel equation (and the resulting curve) is more complex and the reflections are colored in a lot of cases.
Here is a comparison of reflection curves from RefractiveIndex.INFO

Complex Fresnel Plugins for 3ds Max 2013-2016 is a new fresnel calculation which can probably work like the GGX(GTR) BRDF in the new vray 3.1
I found it from Siger Studio that you can download for free. This was created by Regimantas Valiukas - Siger Studio, Based on OSL shader code by Vlado (Vladimir Koylazov - Chaos Group): http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/OSLShaders/Complex+Fresnel+shader.
Presets data from http://refractiveindex.info/

Let's get started how to set up the material:
After installation open your 3ds max and in the material editor create a vray material set your diffuse color to pure black. Uncheck Fresnel reflections option and in the reflection slot put a Complex Fresnel map that you have installed select one of the presets, let's use gold. Set a value in the reflection glossiness, say 0.85. This will set the blurriness of your material, the lower value is the blurry it will be.

If you need a slightly different alloy, adjust the hue shift or saturation there. This way you still have the correct starting point with correct falloff curve and are just making the color change.
For these example, I use the gold material and set the saturation to 30. This will boost the color on your reflection and will have a slightly different effect on the previous one.

Hope it help you guys.
