Minimalist House - 2 Rendering Settings
After days of figuring out how to get a good workflow on HDRI lighting, I finally came up with 2 of my preferred outputs. (Pakiignore ng accuracy ng sun position sa scenes I just chose what fits nicely in the views that were rendered.)
The first scene (day) was done using Vray Dome light with an EXR file. Render color mapping is at Reinhard 1, .25, 2.2 (Gamma). No system gamma correction was made.
The second scene was using Arkibon's method (see http://www.cgpinoy.org/t9583-added-updated-hrdi-with-settings-el-grande-de-mediterranean-house?highlight=el+grande ). Except this scene employed a sunset view, with an HDRI map instead of an EXR, no vray dome light. Color mapping is set to Linear, 1, 1, 1. (Gamma correction is turned on, 2.2)
Both scenes were postprocessed in some way similar to RQUI's great render thread.
http://www.cgpinoy.org/t19966-modern-houseupdate-with-setting-post-pro-tutorialgrass-scatter-tutorial
It is not important to suggest the camera and sun settings - those can be tweaked further (as I did while following the tutorials) to suit your preferred exposure, lighting, etc. For both scenes, Environment map was set to the appropriate HDRI / EXR map used.
I think both methods work well, it's just a matter of preference really. Somehow I tend to gravitate more towards Arkibon's setting.
Comments, as always, are appreciated!

First scene for me Celes.. It already has a suggestion of what you want in the second image with the plus of having the colors still show; client-wise plus yung nakalitaw ang colors, para sa kin.. Second image will cater to the artsy-fartsy group..
First image: alive..
Second image: dry..

Re: Minimalist House - 2 Rendering Settings
i prefer the first scene too. its just a matter of taste i guess. the first one has more depth than the 2nd image which i think is little bit flat... IMHO. or maybe may nakalimutan lang kayo sir celes sa settings ni sir arkibon hehe. it can be argued also if in the 2nd image you use HDRI type of file naman ng EXR na ginamit nyo sa first image. by that we can make a comparison. parehas maganda depende na lang sa titingin.

Re: Minimalist House - 2 Rendering Settings

damn. you just pointed it out - so when i checked the render for 2nd option, di pala naka on yung 2.2 sa LUT kaya dumilim. ill post an update for this.. para mas macocompare. no wonder mejo exponential ang dating (which i liked, hehe). eyes still haywired to exponential, kelangan pa masanay sa linear.
i wanted to compare - kaso, iisa lang talaga ang gamit ko na HDRI map.. the rest, puro EXR lang ang nakuha ko from the links you gave.

convert those exr file to hdr in PS para pareho yung map at sa file type lang sila nag kaiba.. para mas madali silang e compare.. but i think exr file is more better than hdri mas maganda kasi ang buga ng GI sa exr sir.. mas handy nga lang ang hdri kasi mas maliit yung file niya kaysa sa exr but then if you want a good looking GI, I go for exr...

Re: Minimalist House - 2 Rendering Settings
mas maganda ba.. hehe.. baka dahil sa base resolution. naka 2400x1800 ang raw renders nito eh.
btw updated ung maling ver. 2.. turned gamma 2.2 LUT on.
un nga lang, cant resist fixing the curves para me sharp contrast. pero sige since mas gusto niyo ang ver. 1, ill use that more often.

i think i have a calibration issue with the monitor, msyadong contrasty sa mobile device ang mga images. but here's the raw render after converting the exr to hdr. same orientation ng HDRI + vray sun position. top image is the Peter Guthrie method, below image is the "modified arkibons" method

both are great at the end of the day it will boil down kung ano ang mas mabilis na settings... your raw output makes your rendering superb + the design... madali lang kasi ang magpost-process...

I would agree din sir. Upon observation mas maganda ang representation ng materials and ung color ng pool mas matingkad. Maaachieve din yan sa 2nd option kung ang environment override is either ung vray sky or blue na tone
