straw bale construction material
Good day to all of you I just want to ask about this material? I had my thesis with a concept of "Organic Architecture" (its a resort) and I think that using straw bales (dayami) as a wall material will reduce construction cost ( by using available materials in the environment, my site is a cereal field... a farm) and lessen the use of energy, pollution and green house effects
(details of construction are shown below):
My doubts are:
1. Does the material has a strength to carry loads (my structure is just a one storey building with a roof garden)?
2. My site is in Bicol and we all knew that it is a typhoon prone region, does this material can stand in that weather condition?
3. How long these material can last?
Is there anyone who had a background in these kind of construction, please help me
I already ask mr. google about these but unfortunately there are no tropics related example existing in the www
Some explanation about this material is in these website :

1. Parang hollow blocks lang din to. You'll need coloumns.
2. Yup, covered naman ng lime render(palitada)
3. 10-20 years yata yan.
Very good insulating material ito. Good for cold climate. Medyo hindi practical dito sa tropics. Fire hazard din to, pag hindi maganda pagkaprotect. Thick.
Good construction substitute, provided abundant ito sa area.
If you're going for a roof garden or grass roof. I suggest you combine this with underground style of living. Mas organic yun at eco friendly.

Thak you sir

Re: straw bale construction material

Re: straw bale construction material

Re: straw bale construction material
hi bro, pacomment..maganda itong naisaipan mo na iincorporate itong material na ito sa design mo dahil it resonates green design..pero ang nature ng dayami as far as i know or unless otherwise treated ay kung naexposed sa weather is nag shri-shrink sya hanggang mabulok na at nagiging fertilizer ,during that process nagkakaroon din ng amag,so maganda cguro ito kung meron chemical na iapply para maipreserve ang quality nya for long term or lifetime use

Re: straw bale construction material

Good for insulation.
