appropriate high reso..
hi! i asked this before in 3dp, but i can't retrieve the page file,. ayaw na kasi mag-open..anyways, ano po b magandang resolution or in simpler terms.. "standard resolutions" for any size of paper? (commercial sizes:20x30, 30x40, A3, etc..)
ano po ba ung usual na high resolution na ginagamit madalas.. that produces details but at the same time, render times are considered.. thanks.. (",)
(i know there is a feature in max, the print size wizard? that helps calculates the resolution in terms of DPI..)

Re: appropriate high reso..
try using "Print Size Assistant/Wizard" inside Max.. its under Render Menu.. i think 72dpi for all the sizes is enough..

Re: appropriate high reso..
nice read, dont want to hijack this but this relevant to the topic, just want to clarify between dpi "dots per inch"; is it synonymous to "pixels per inch or pixel density" ??.. im confuse about the two terms..
by the way here my resolution output, 1280 x 768 min, 1980 x 1050 max , is not our office standard, but i prefer it for hi-res to fit most of todays lcd..

Re: appropriate high reso..
you could also try this, it depends on what size of print media your client wants the image to be printed:
let's say:
11"x17" paper size
PPI: 240 for photoprints, you could also choose 72 ppi depends on details you want to show and would result in a lower resolution.
11"x240dpi=2640
17"x240dpi=4080
so you need to set the output size to 2640x4080
hope this helps

Re: appropriate high reso..
Along the range as tutik's
Usually it is 300 dpi max.
Max renders a default of 72 dpi.
Computation is always : paper size in inches X dots per inches
Some people ask what if I am going to print a poster? - it still is 300 dpi max
How about if I am going to print a 10 meter x 10 meter billboard? the max is still 300 dpi.
Why? because you wouldn't actually need such a density, the difference is so miniscule in the printed paper and no hiedelberg would handle that anyways..
Some stupid printshop artist would require you to output more than the 300 dpi trying to sound intelligent - you can diss him off and tell him to try rendering such a size....
Its like your vitamins - some people think that yo're doubling the merits if you take twice the dosage - unfortunately your body will handle only the required dailly allowance - anything beyond that - goes out of your body.
Same thing.

had a crazier experience before...some ppl from client based it on the filesize. ...as long as they saw it was like in a huge Mb filesize, it was 'high-res' for them
