Try to use f2. Canon f1.4 looks pretty crisp in f2.

If the budget is not a problem, get the canon 70-200 f2.8 IS USM.

for me, this is the lens line-up i would recommend. for standard zoom lens get the canon 24-70 f2.8 USM. then for telephoto lens canon 70-200 f2.8 IS USM.
