Re: 35mm f1.8 lens or 50mm f1.8 lens?
50mm. half the price, same bokeh, and at the minimum focus distance, atras ka lang ng 2 hakbang, 35mm na un :p

i like the perspective of 35mm. good for group shots w/ bg while the 50mm is good for product shots (toys) and headshots. the price is the clue as to which one is better.

Salamat po sir
welcome...note that my comment is based on the lenses (assumed for fx bodies) mounted on an APS-C (dx-cropped) body. on a full frame, the 50mm will have almost the same perspective as the 35mm on dx.

kung sa nikon, mahal ang nikkor 35mm f/1.8 AF-S kasi, may Built in Motor, nakagamit nako ng ganito and its tack sharp, sulit naman lalo na kung entry level or upper entry level ang body mo.while nikkor 50mm 1.8 ay AF, kailangan may inbody motor ang body mo, to be able to use autofocus with this lens. eg. d90,d300,etc. i think nasa 6k ang 50mm 1.8 at yung 35mm 1.8 nasa 12 or 13k.
kung sa canon naman, As far as i know, walang 1.8 na 35mm,meron 35mm f/2 or the Luxury 35mm f/1.4 L

i used to own a d40, the 50mm was only manual focus pero didnt encounter any issues that much .
although nowadays i also want to have a "general purpose" lens, the 50mm doesnt fit dahil di siya enough for group shots (as mentioned by tutik). when i tried the 35mm the guy from iphoto dissuaded me to buy it - instead magantay daw next year maglalabas ang nikon ng 24mm na bago
overall - kung budget ang constraint and you can live without the AF, go for the 50mm.
for your peace of mind, go for the 35mm.

Re: 35mm f1.8 lens or 50mm f1.8 lens?
i never mind the manual focus of 50mm on my D60 ..
it never leaves my d60 after ko nabili yun .. pwera na lang kung mga wide shots, then i use my kit lens.. (18-55)

Re: 35mm f1.8 lens or 50mm f1.8 lens?
kahapon lang i came across sa library - a 'lense book.' landslide favourite daw talaga ang 35mm sa masa at walang pumapansin sa 50mm (that explains why 50mm is so cheap). i can understand why nagsawa si Menchie. but as i said, i like it for headshots dahil di masyado nadidistort ang mukha using 50mm they appear to be more normal and flattering. 35mm is also good when used in a creative way.
pagdating naman sa bokeh from experience the wider the focal length the less-shallower the dof you will have, so 50mm by right should have better bokeh. (Glensky even mentioned before that 85mm and 135mm primes are bokeh machines). note that bokeh is also aperture dependent, setting to f22 for instance will render your image to have no bokeh at all.
sa issue ng focusing i have no problem even if it won't autofocus on certain cameras. both lense's autofocus ring only turns slightly (unlike zoom lenses), focusing manually is therefore not that difficult.

i'll take it (mashadong) as typo error. but please be warned

Re: 35mm f1.8 lens or 50mm f1.8 lens?
ay oo nga.. sorry ..
yeah medyo hindi nga ma-"bokeh" ang 35mm .. pero i like it anyway.
weigh mo which one you like better.. then benta mo na yun isa na less like mo.
