Intel's Sandy Bridge Architecture first quarter 2011
http://www.anandtech.com/show/3922/intels-sandy-bridge-architecture-exposed
Sandy Bridge is Intel’s 2011 performance mainstream architecture refresh. It won’t take the place of the 6-core Gulftown based Core i7 processors at the top of the charts, but it’ll occupy the competitive space below it. The value segments won’t see Sandy Bridge until 2012.
The first CPUs will ship very early in 2011 for both desktops and notebooks. The architecture discussion we have here today applies to both. The CPUs won’t be called Sandy Bridge but instead will be called Intel’s 2nd generation Core i3/i5/i7 microrpocessors. The naming system will follow this format we outlined in our earlier look at Sandy Bridge

Dadi Perlmutter (VP and GM of the Intel Architecture Group) detailed features for our upcoming 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ processor family (Sandy Bridge) for laptops and PCs… Spolier: more energy efficient and a visually stunning experience.
The chips are expected to be in production later this year with new laptops and PCs available starting in early 2011.
These new improvements are achieved via a new “ring” architecture that allows the built-in processor graphics engine to share resources such as cache, or a memory reservoir, with the processor’s core to increase a device’s computing and graphics performance while maintaining energy efficiency.
Intel’s new processor graphics delivers enhanced visual features focused on the areas where most users are computing today: HD video, 3-D, mainstream gaming, multi-tasking and online socializing and multimedia.
Check out Steve Smith, vice president and director of PC Client Operations Intel Corporation.

Asus details Sandy Bridge motherboard lineup
Loads of 6-series goodness on the way
by Geoff Gasior — 11:49 PM on November 14, 2010
Intel's next-generation Sandy Bridge processors are due out in early 2011. This latest "tock" in the company's tick-tock approach to CPU development will spin a fresh microarchitecture on the 32-nano fabrication process in use since Westmere debuted last year. Arriving alongside Sandy Bridge is a family of 6-series core-logic chipsets. These new chipsets will fuel a torrent of motherboards decked out with Sandy Bridge's updated LGA1155 socket.
With Sandy Bridge's arrival imminent, motherboard makers are eager to talk about what they've lined up to meet Intel's new hotness. Early last week, I flew down to San Jose for a look at what Asus has in store for Sandy Bridge. I saw much at this so-called technical summit, little of which I'm at liberty to share. There are, however, a number of details concerning Asus' upcoming 6-series motherboards that I can talk about. Some of them are rather interesting.
Before delving into specifics, I should note that Asus is readying 17 different 6-series motherboards for Sandy Bridge. Amazingly, that's substantially fewer than the company rolled out the last time Intel introduced a new CPU platform. Asus is trying to simplify its lineup, and 17 models still leaves plenty of room for diversity. Of the 17, 10 will be based on the P67 chipset, which won't work with Sandy Bridge's integrated graphics. Six boards will use the graphics-ready H67 chipset, while one is slated to incorporate its business-focused twin, the Q67.

Re: Intel's Sandy Bridge Architecture first quarter 2011
Guys,
hindi pa advisable mag build ngayun ng new RIGS,
hintayin natin ilabas nila yung extreme ng Sandy Bridge.
pwede na kayo start like Case, cooling system etc. pero yung main system better to wait until 3rd quarter.
pero kung needed na talaga sa tingin ko mas ok yung core i7 970 (6c/12t) sulit ka dito!
or wait for Ivy Bridge for maximum satisfaction. (16c/32t)
buti nalang di dumating yung SR2 ko.
btw correct me if im wrong with my perception for building new RIGS to avoid the so called "technology decay" and to maximise the amount of declining rate of return on your technology investements.
Existing Rigs to New Rigs
core2 duo to i7 (4c/8t)
core2 quad to sandy (8c/16t)
i7 extreme to haswell (16??/32??)
xeon 2x4-core to ivy bridge (2x8c/32t)
xeon 2x6-core to rockwell (2x16c/64t)
kaya kung meron kana i7 ngayun, its not time to biuld new rigs (sandy)
pero kung needed talaga from i7(4/8t) to ivy bridge (2x8c/32t) is justifiable.
pero bottom line pa din, make sure na maximise mo yung usage ng RIGS mo. yung tipong nag fatal-error na sau yung i7. pero kung farmville lang naman usages ng i7 wag kana muna mag upgrade.

Re: Intel's Sandy Bridge Architecture first quarter 2011
If anyone is planning to buy icore 920 mas sulit to go with sandybridge, because its performance is very close to the corei7 970 and it has a cheaper price on the processor, future proof pa motherboard mo
Hindi sulit yun core i7 970, because you cant OC it as stable as the core i7 980. the price difference is not that big, if you want extreme performance go with i7 980x its faster than the available sandybridge.
based on my experience an OC'd i7 980 at 4ghz performs only 10-15% less than a 24 thread 3.33 xeon stock , and i7 980x renders 2x faster than core i7 920 stock.
Compare to the setup prices:
dual 12 core xeon= $7000
6 core i7 980x= $2500
4 core i7 920= $1000
tama si bicolano if you have i7 no need to upgrade, for new buyers its more choices

Hi Valiant, I got mine from alienware dell outlet, its a refurbished alienware 51, core i7 980x, 6gb ram, gtx 480, less than $2400 with 15% coupon discount. They now have an alienware aurora at $1800 with core i7 980x Very tempting.hehe
