Re: My Demo Reel
the models were done by our china office. the characters and animated objects were done by our animator, Warren.
Lighting, Scene setup(trees, landscape, etc.), Material Setup, after effects, and everything else was done and prepared by me.
the rest of the team are busy doing other projects.
How long the project takes depends..but from what you saw, it span about 2-3 weeks per project...about 5-10 cameras per project

Didn't have much time to view the video totally but I think this work is extremely impressive.
Care to explain the details about this work. Like how many worked in this project. How long it took. How you lit it?
Come and work with us!

thanks for the warm comment, would have been great if one day you can view the whole video. Il try to repost it again someday with sounds, didnt have much time to do the video. Anyway, regarding your inquiry, i will try to give as much detail as I can.
* all building models were create by both of our office, our China office and Dubai office. I have to admit, the Chinese dudes are extremely fast in modeling. They have 3 Modelers and they can finish an entire area complete with buildings and site development in less than 2 days. I still do not know how they do it. Not to mention that the models are very good in detail and very organized.
* All animated object like People, cameras, speed boats, cars, etc. are prepared by our one animator, Warren. He is responsible for keyframing the characters and objects to do exactly what we want them to do on the scene.
* All lighting setup, scene setup and micromanagement, scene composition(adding trees, static peope, static cars), Material setup, and post production is done by me. For these scenes, I am responsible for these. My other team members are busy doing their own projects. We usually do 2 - 3 projects at the same time. Sometimes they give a hand, but all the major and critical parts are handled by me.
* I am also responsible for making sure the whole scene renders and can finish in time.
* Time it takes per project depends. Usually the animation project would run for 2-3 weeks. Some lasted 1 - 2 months because they were 1920 resolution. We even had an animation project that lasted only a week including the modeling of the buildings.
* as for all the scenes lighting...they are all VraySun with VraySky and VrayPhysicalCamera.
I hope it answers most of the inquiry. Yep, i always have my options open... your in Japan right? Maybe not this soon yet coz my hands are tied, but Im interested. Please do let me know...

Re: My Demo Reel
Well, while I spend most of my time in Japan, I also shift in between timezones so I might be in Manila...or Sapporo or maybe Singapore which sounds exciting BTW.
Seriously now, Is this GI or domes? If its GI, did you separate the computes for the animated objects or did you do it in one pass?
I'll check the video again later today after work.
Thanks for the indulgence.

heheheh baka sketchup modelling bro.. bilis eh..
Re: My Demo Reel
v_wrangler: nope, did not use domes. Its GI Irradiance and Lightcache. Lights and setup are vraysun and vraysky with vrayphysical camera.
We did not use another pass for the animated object only if there are flickering. Its the only time we create a pass, to have a fix over the flickering objects. The Irradiance and Lightcache are pre-computed. The whole bulk of the animation is rendered in one pass.
nomeradona: nope its not sketchup..they are using Max and CAD combo. they are just that fast. I know two of them has 10 years modelling experience...the models are very clean and accurate...

How many frame increments did you compute the irradiance?
Apologies for my unending questions - I hope to bring this thread of yours a source of good real production info..

Re: My Demo Reel
No worries, i really do not mind answering inquiries. I also prefer such questions because it opens to a lot of information sharing. Our pipeline is not perfect and it has many flaws, but ill try my best to share...Im also hoping to get input from others..maybe share how they do things on their pipeline so that i can have an insight to adjustments if needed.
As for the increments, it also depends on how fast the camera is, how far or close the camera is to objects. If its a fast camera, we sometimes go from every 3 frame increment of Irradiance computation. On good times, we go as far as 5 frames per second, thus saving us a lot of computation time.
But on other cases were the camera is slow moving, near objects and contains a lot of objects, we sometime go for every 2 frames computation. On rare cases, we go for every 1 frame computation. Our standard is every 3 frames.
for making passes like re-rendering animated objects to fix flickering, we sometimes go for Brute force...we use QMC on both primary and secondary...yep, produces a lot of noise but makes up with the most accurate rendering computation. Since its moving objects and its animated, the noise is barely noticeable. very handy at times...

Sir I suspect it's INTERICAD especially if it's chinese because intericad came from china. It's too fast in rendering specially if you have a very very good background in cad modeling and the files are save as .dwg file in modelling module of the software.

Re: My Demo Reel
kietsmark: Nope..its not intericad also....its max and cad....the files are in max...the models are very clean...polygons are properly cut and connected...something you will only see if the objects are created in max.
