I am also looking into this. And I have also tried modeling, by following a tutorial. The tool set are divided into working tabs. These are tabs that are merely sub-object levels in 3ds max. In modo 401, the sub-objects has it's own working environment.

Will try to explore more on this one, when i have some spare time.
