Right now - I am looking at the beta of OZONE 4 from eon software. It is quite simple and might help you all whenever you need quick clouds or environent. Plugs into max rightaway.

ENVIRONMENTS: Ozone 4 Ozone3B

I am still testing and we'll see if we can use this tool for future projects.

So why post here at the vfx conference?

It is because there are limited ways to create clouds as vfx and the current solutions (particles, volumetrics) has it downsides too in terms of cost, rendering time and applicability.

So anything that leads to new options is a welcome development in CG.

Presets like OZONE - is close as photographing the real thing. The good thing is you can save time and use your own virtual cameras. Doesn't work in vray, MR only.

Its in BETA now - the agreement says you may use it for commercial puposes but you'd need to buy a license once its out.

Fair deal in my opinion.

As far as my tests go - The environmnets (Sky, clouds, etc) are animatable. This ones pretty similar to Dreamscape but the nicest thing about OZONE is its simplicity and the visual presets - meaning you can select a preset cloud or look - edit it to your taste and even see how they look in a small visual preview.

I just started checkling it out this morning so I do not know everything about it yet - but nevertheless its one hell of a VFX in the box. Go and try it yourself!

Neil, pwede ba pakiseparate thread na lang itong discussion ng OZONE sa VFX? Sensya na.

do you have benchmarks for rendering? kasi I've tried vue and that program somehow uses its own render engine and just incorporates mental ray. So at certain times, its still slow.

i have this OZONE already, its now a pluginn for max, unfortunately it doesnt work on my max 2009. Dont know yet the reason so i uninstalled it for the meantime. Havent tried it yet to a lower version. But i see its good. i shift back to my Vue and Bryce.

As for clouds and other enviromental scape - i always use my Dreamscape, Vue and Bryce plus this a bit new one the Carrara Pro.

Eyecon, OZONE is strictly MR - but it isnt a problem since we composite everything. I think - for matte painting - tools like this can ease your workflows so you need not make extensions by painting or add photos all the time.

Ron, I'm testing OZONE on max2008 - but as far as I remember the installation for max2009 was the same as the one for 2008.

I do not have the benchmarks yet - I'll probably have an answer soon.

I don't really like Bryce's renders for clouds... if you want semi realistic, I might recommend terragen instead of Bryce.

@rendermaster and vertex
eon ozone like vue is not compatible in max2009 and not sure also if it works in max 2008. does it work vertex? the only version of 3dsmax for me na maraming compatible na plugins is 3dsmax 9 and error prone talaga ang vue xstream kahit pa sinasabi nila na nakasync na sa max. kung vue infinite okay pa. sana maging stable na talaga ang xstream sa max. Very Happy

Its not vue - I'm only testing the OZONE ver.4 plugin. I just tested and it works both in MAX2008/2009. The installer also has an option for MAX2010 installs. Perhaps you guys refer to the older version.

Got it here.

to Sir Vertex - siguro gawa na lang ng VFX Wishlist kasunod nitong thread na ginawa mo. kase nasimulan na etong unang thread ( this one) ng mga feedbacks and more. at least we know na maraming interesado. Then kapag VFX discussion na, it will be refered doon sa VfX wishlist. Create ka na lang ng isa pa then iyon ang gawing sticky. Puede rin naman dito na rin kaya lang marami ng discussion hehehhe na nauna.

I already requested to separate this thread but people were too fast for me and I thought I need to keep up with the momentum. It was my fault I realized too late that OZONE should have been a separate thread - and I cannot move em.

It would be nice as I mentioned a few posts above to separate this ozone thread here at VFX; then leave the What do you want to see thingy on its own. Can you do that for me, onel d pogi ? Very Happy
