Phuket Mansion - 2 Storey House
First topic message reminder :
Hi to all. Again, I just want to share my 3D practice. It’s been too long since I’ve done something for my free time due to shortage of rendering services. Hehe…
This is my work detail.
Design:
It is 150sqm+ of floor area of 2 storey. The design is inspired by the Architecture that can be found in Phuket, Indonesia. Modernized and applied design to suite our climatic and lifestyle here in the Philippines. I limited the materials with stucco, rough concrete and 2 tones to wood. I made it simple same as my other designs.
3D:
House: I practiced my modeling in Sketchup with reference plan in CAD format. Pretty simple but yet challenging to me switching form 3ds max to SK modeling. SK presentation in conceptual state is great IMO.
Vegetation: I used Itoo Forest Lite to distribute my grass because I don’t usually use displacement map (preferance) except for a bigger scale project. Trees are generated in Onyx Suite. I made 2 trees and distributed to using Itoo Forest Lite again with different in different sizes. The rest of the vegetations are duplicated using Vray Proxy. I was thinking of mixing dried leaves with fresh ones so that I can scatter some leaves on the foreground. And oh, I forgot couple of leaves also along the road. Oh well.
Lighting: I situated the VraySun slightly at the back of the house. Never done this before but I saw some renderings that looks good this location.
Rendering: Unfortunately I only have 32bit OS and 4GB of ram. It was quite hard to render at 2800px up at a medium setting. But I finally did it. Saved the light map to a slightly smaller resolution and then rendered the image using VFB and Vrimg. I also used ZDepth for DOF. I think I can achieve better control over the DOF with this workflow. Sun glare and mood are made in PS.
I guess that’s it. Hope everybody also learned something from this.
Cheers to all!

yup, lurker lang. timing nakita ko gawa mo waahhahha! till now la pa ring patience mag aral ng max at vray.
skp to max na ba workflow mo? try mo yung skp importer (if max 2010 gamit mo). native skp file pwede na straight to max including cameras, materials etc. alam mo na siguro yun hehe might try it one of these days ("might" being the operative word)

Ah ic. Yup may extension something from SKP to Max. Unfortunately di ko pa gamit 2010 kasi wala pa Vray for that. Hehe... I'm using SKP for concept presentation. Gusto ko kasi ung extended lines nya. Dito sa office I usually use it na for concept proposal lang. Very quick modeling tapos detailed 3D na sa 3Ds Max pag approved na. Masaya model sa Max pare. Pero nagiging power tool na rin SKP kasi simple lang sya. Dami na rin plugins din. Hehe...

Hi to all curious about the grass technique that I did here. I made a tutorial especially for the CGpips. Here's the link:

thanks to all comments.
Onyx Tree is another separated software to generate trees. You can also use speedtree. It is also nice.

Re: Phuket Mansion - 2 Storey House
Thanks for the comments guys.
Hi there. Thanks for the comments also. Actually this is not considered as a linear workflow since I adjusted the color correction in PS and applied DOF in PS also using Zdepth. I exported my render image as Vrimg and open it in PS as EXR. Then I adjust the Gamma to 0.45-0.55 (Can't remember) followed by the prefered exposure.
If you want a linear workflow, I think it is better to use Reinhard or Linear Color Mapping. I find exponential color mapping conservative in the sense that it will not burn the color of your scene. Well, I'm not quite sure about this but that is something that I can tryout also. I am still studying a linear workflow also so keep me posted if ever you findout something. =)
Cheers!
